Excellence
Lovely setting, warm room and fantastic breakfast. Staff were wonderful
Lovely Setting
We spent 3 nights at the Willowbeck and found both the rooms and social areas to be comfortable and the staff were friendly … the only downside we could find is in regard to the breakfast which weren't very hot !!
Excellent and a lovely place to stay.
You are welcomed by the owner and taken to your room. Fully informed and nothing is too much trouble. Lovely location and beautiful hotel. Everything you need and an excellent place to stay. Breakfast was lovely. Staff are helpful and welcoming. 100% would recommend Willowbeck and will definitely return.
Comfortable stay….staff exceptional
We stayed for one night rooms clean and recently refinished to a high standard. We stayed and had drinks and dinner…food was fairly priced and good.Breakfast was excellent and staff made it extra special. My only concern would be some rooms on 1st floor have sloping ceilings so be aware especially if you’re tall….ground floor rooms very spacious.Overall we would definitely return.
Fabulous.
This was our eighth stay at Willowbeck Lodge. In every way it is a superb place to stay. There are no negatives. We plan to be back next year. We would highly recommend Willowbeck Lodge.Thank you Andrew and your team.
Excellent
Lovely family run hotel with a great location and attentive staff. Food was a great standard and well presented.
A little gem
I booked this for a weekend getaway and meet up with family. The rooms are comfortable, spotless and have their own temperature control. The hotel is in lovely grounds in a small village which has a great pub.We had a table of 15 for dinner in the restaurant on Saturday evening and the food was superb! The staff are lovely and very attentive and Andrew is a thoughtful host.
Highly Recommended
Stayed for 2 nights over a wet and windy weekend in November for my brothers 60th. Arrived Friday evening. We stayed in Ash and found it to be a lovely room, nice and warm after a 2 hour journey. Comfy bed, plenty of storage and a spotlessly clean shower room. Breakfast was to a high standard and I can highly recommend the French toast. We ate as a group of 15 in the hotel restaurant on Saturday. There was a menu that suited everyone and there wasn't a crumb left. All the staff are friendly and cant do enough for you. We left after another excellent breakfast on the Sunday and are making plans to visit again next year.
Beautiful Stay
Had an absolutely beautiful, relaxing stay at the Cedar Garden Lodge. The Lodge was immaculate and very tastefully decorated with a lovely log burner which was amazing. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and we look forward to returning very soon.
Perfect
We stopped over for one night in Eva’s Cottage. The hotel is in such a pretty setting. Our room was perfect and we had a restful evening. The lovely staff were helpful and attentive during our stay. The only regret is we didn’t have more time to spend here, and we are already planning to return to enjoy some tranquil time away from life in this pretty place.
marvelous
very beautiful lodge with extremy friendly staff. we stoped over on out tour from Edingburgh to Manchester as The lodge is only a few minutes away from M6.would stay again
5 STARS!
Beautiful location, very clean rooms, room service daily. Excellent staff/customer service. Ideal for business stays as peace of mind/good rest is important. Will be staying here again 5*s!
Faultless
What a find. Stylish, immaculately clean and comfortable, great food and friendly staff.
Brilliant
The hotel is cosy and beautifully appointed. We had the cedar room which meant we had a private space , including a stylish lounge and kitchen.Perfect!
University Trip
After a long drive it was nice to see a welcoming face. The hosts couldn’t do enough for us.The rooms were excellent, with everything you’d expect and more.We had an evening meal which was amazing. Breakfast was equally as good.If we visit the area again it will be the first port of call for a stay.Would recommend to anyone.
Lovely first night of our touring holiday.
We stayed in the Cedar lodge on a B&B rate in November. The lodge was spotless clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Excellent choice for breakfast and easily accommodated my Husband's Gluten Free intolerance. More importantly we were greeted with a smile at check in and breakfast was a relaxed welcoming start to our road trip.Ideally located for the M6.Would recommend to friends and family.
Exactly what we needed.
I'm so happy we stumbled upon this lovely lodge. We were stunned by own forest impression driving in, so beautiful. We had a very polite and friendly greeting, it felt like a home from home. The room we stayed in was spotless and so cosy. Very happy with our experience, would 100% recommend.
Absolute gem
Wonderful hotel. Only 5 minutes off the motorway, clean, modern & tasteful property set on a large pond. Warm and welcoming team offering great service and great food.
Perfect place
Immaculately spotless room, very spacious, very comfortablebed giving a great nights sleep. Large double shower, tea and coffee facilities.A great breakfast over looking the pond as well.Great host.
Fantastic or even better
This hotel lives up to its reviews and classification as a boutique hotel. The rooms are beautifully designed and cleanliness above acceptable standards. Staff are ultra helpful and friendly. Special mention to female staff member who attended to our every requests. If you are looking for a bulk breakfast not here more based on quality than quantity and superb presentation. Best bit is location away from hustle bustle of the town and only is a 10 minute drive to city centre of Carlisle.
A hidden wonderful gem
What a wonderful hidden gem, amazing. A bright, airy & welcoming hotel - modern but cozy all in one. There are only a handful of rooms, ours was Willow which was very big, super comfortable bed, separate dressing room & truly magnificent & luxury bathroom (a bathtub big enough for 6ft 3 husband is a rare find!!!!). Sadly we are here for just one night on our way back from Scotland because this would have been a great spot to stay longer. The restaurant was great, after an 8 hour drive they just wrapped us up & looked after us. Brilliant & amazing just 5 minutes off motorway.
Lovely and comfortable stay
Comfortable and spacious room and facilities, beautiful location, very friendly and helpful staff, tasty food and an excellent Chablis!Very convenient for the M6 yet far enough away for a restful stay.We hope to return on our future travels.Thank you and good luck with the renovations>
Our experience
Enjoyed the stay overall. Nice location and pond and trees etcThe site could have benefited from a tidy up in trrms of putting old sanitary ware in skip and building waste removed. Our room Hazel was cold. No underfloor heating. The Tv nor WiFi worked. But the food was very good and very friendly ladies in the evening in the restaurant. We sre pointing out
Excellent place to stay
We were driving from the south up to Scotland so this was a very well located overnight stop.Very comfortable accommodation and high standard of food.
Simply Beautiful.
Stunning lodge, room was clean, tidy, spacious and thebed was comfortable. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast. Quite how I like it. My new stop over place.
Great accommodation
We have stayed several times and never been disappointed. The room was very comfortable and well appointed and the dinner and breakfast were very good.
Good. clean.warm
2 nights stay. 4 adults with continental breakfast good accommodation
Great location very close to M6
A little haven a very short distance from the M6. Very comfortable, extremely friendly staff and good food. Brilliant venue to break a long journey.
A little gem
Always difficult finding a hotel somewhere you don’t know well. This was deservedly well reviewed and we weren’t disappointed. It’s a little gem. It’s in a lovely setting and at this time of year with the morning sun on the autumn colours on the trees it was a picture. The rooms are not huge but very comfortable and well appointed. We had a couple of small teething problems but the extremely helpful team quickly and efficiently sorted them out. Dining was lovely in a high ceiling restaurant with local ingredients cooked with care. We enjoyed it very much and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
Touch of northern England
A warm & comfortable modern lodge just outside the city of Carlisle.Beautiful grounds, very comfortable suite and a warm & inviting staff. The dinner and breakfast was outstanding and possibly the best of our entire trip.A highly recommended lodge if your staying in the area.
Great Location and Hotel whilst travelling for work
Stayed here whilst working in the area. Very friendly team, clean and comfortable hotel in a great location. I would stay again
Fantastic
We stayed at Willowbeck Lodge on route to Scotland in September and it was so great we booked again for the trip home. The rooms are extremely clean, comfortable and well appointed and the staff was incredibly friendlyand accommodating. The food is also top notch, with healthy breakfasts and outstanding dinner menu too. Can’t recommend it enough :)
Glorious So Peaceful
We stayed 3 nights in Hazel Garden Room which was beautiful.Super King-size bed was comfy so much room.Breakfasts were all beautiful.Staff at breakfast and dinner were lovely.Hope to be back soon.
Excellent
What a lovely find. Super-clean and comfortable, lovely surroundings , friendly staff and great food. Thank you

A lovely stay
A short break
A very nice stay, room, food, hospitality and surroundings absolutely brilliant
A quiet oasis just off the M6
We received a very nice welcome and our room was spacious with a lovely view over the pond. The en-suite was excellent, very modern , spacious with stand alone bath. The bed was a lovely big size and very comfortable
Excellent Stay
Comfortable room, great food and friendly, helpful staff
Lovely overnight stay
We had a lovely overnight stay and really liked the location of Willowbeck Lodge with easy access from the motorway.Although small, the room was lovely decorated with a view over the lake. Our evening meal was delicious and we were really looked after by the two waitresses.Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We would definitely stay again.Thank you!
Excellent stay, beautiful location, helpful staff
Lovely surroundings, great value for money, delicious quality breakfast and wonderful helpful and friendly staff! Clean, comfortable room with great extras.
Very comfortable
Nice room and good food, bath room a bit fiddly
Very pleasant
Quiet select hotel with excellent cuisine and personalised service. Would stay again.
Nice stay
Nice hotel. Room (Larch) was quite small, but fot one night it was fine.
Perfection
Over the past few weeks, we have journeyed extensively across the UK, and in our view, Willowbeck Lodge stands unrivaled. Tucked away in the embrace of nature, it offers tranquility, cleanliness, and exceptional comfort—truly the finest place to unwind. The Lodge also boasts a remarkable dining experience, which has similarly earned its place at the top of our list.
A lovely oasis of calm
Willowbeck is a hidden gem - 10 mins from M6 but in a little world of its own - beautiful scandi cabin type building, bedrooms very comfortable and beautifully fitted. Enjoyed dinner very much - menu large enough to suit most tastes but small enough to be properly seasonal and interesting.
well maintained well presented welcoming
this is a good place for an overnight stop on the way north. restaurant is good tho quite small- you need to book. breakfast was good - but you had to preorder room was comfortable and well appointed
Very comfortable
Very comfortable stay with excellentbreakfast
Lovely place for a stop over
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, lovely compact room, had everything we needed. Staff were extremely friendly and service was great. Simple to find and really accessible to the motorway whilst being very quiet and peaceful. Would definitely return in the future!
Lovely and relaxing
A small boutique hotel makes it feel comfortable and relaxing. Very friendly and helpful staff - nothing was too much. The dinner was excellent as was breakfast. We stayed in the Oak room and it was clean, comfortable and modern. The only thing missing is some lighting where the tea/coffee facilities are - a small table lamp would be a good addition. We look forward to another return visit - thank you.
Beautiful
The setting, the rooms and decor throughout, Andrew and his staff - everything is perfect. There must have been so much thought gone into every detail but for the visitor it appears effortless. Thank you for another wonderful stay.
The place to stay.
Stayed one night on way to Scotland and would recommend it to anyone. It's clean, well presented with extremely friendly staff and the food is outstanding
Idyllic stop -over to destress just moments away from our destination
A fabulous five-night stay just yards from the garage where our car was being repaired. The setting overlooking the stunning private lake couldn't be more relaxing.Andrew and his team are the perfect hosts who we now consider friends. Our room Eva's Cottage is beautifully equipped and has the bonus of its own patio to sitout on when the sun shines. It is such a shame most guests are in transit and only stay one night. They really do miss a treat.Thank you for a memorable stay.We will definitely be back.
One night stay
We had a lovely one night stay here. We had booked the Hazel room. WiFi is not very good in this room but this was fully explained to us and they are in the process of sorting it out. The room was amazing with everything you could need. We had an evening meal and breakfast during or stay both were exceptional. I would highly recommend a stay here and we will be back next time we are on a journey.
Very comfortable stay in peaceful surroundings
I stayed one night after dropping my daughter for university in Glasgow. I enjoyed a very comfortable stay in peaceful surroundings, despite being just 5 minutes from the M6. It's the perfect location for an overnight stop when travelling to/from Scotland. Tesco supermarket is 5 mins away for refuelling. Next time I will allow more time to explore the area because this is only 15 miles from Hadrian's Wall visitor centre. After settling in, I enjoyed a nicely prepared dinner. The steak was good quality and perfectly cooked. I don't like fries served in a mini fryer so that was soon dispensed with after I tipped them onto my plate where they should be served in the first place (sorry, pet hate), but that's only a minor gripe because the fries were excellent! Huge bed, well appointed bathroom, room was very comfortable and furnished to a high quality. Certainly more than adequate for a couple. I was solo traveller this time so more than enough room. Breakfast was again very nicely done, the chef here is excellent. Good coffee, impeccable service at dinner and breakfast. Only issue was no wi-fi in my room which I recommend is addressed quite urgently as it's very inconvenient if trying to keep on top of work. I did get a good connection in the lounge though. Many thanks for the warm welcome and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone M6 bound.
An absolute pleasure
A little gemPerfect setting just off the M6. The room and bathroom were extremely well equipped and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast well exceeded expectations and were very efficiently and promptly served. A most enjoyable visit and would highly recommend
Excellent
Excellent
Stop over
An excellent location for both our outward and return journey from Oban.
Peaceful
Beyond Highly recommend. We will be back and bring our family too. Amazing people. Nothing was to much. We arrived late around 9ish pm but kitchen shuts at8pm and we hadn't had dinner he offered to start the grill up and cook my husband and I a hamburger with chips. We ended up asking just for chips as it was late to re fire up the grill we didn't want to inconvenience Andrew even though he insisted. Took our bags up to our room. Felt so welcome by all. Food is amazing also had breakfast as well and omg delicious. Perfect location too. The room was perfect, we have been away for two weeks and by far this stay was the best of them all. We stayed in the room namedwillow. The only thing was bad was we didn't get to enjoy the beauty of this place but it's ok as I said we will be definitely coming back. Good luck with this Sunday with the car and caffeine show and hope all goes well. Thank you for having us. Karren and Kev from Australia
A Beautiful Boutique Hotel
After a 400 mile drive we were glad to see such a wonderful hotel. The grounds are impressive, and the staff very good.If you're in Ash room then mind your head, as the eaves make it tricky.Well recommended.
Excellent
Very comfortable and an excellent breakfast.
Perfect Visit
A great place to arrive after a long journey.Well appointed through out. Very friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner and it was well cooked and was of a very high standard. We loved everything about our stay.
Great food and super staff.
We stayed at Willowbeck for two nights and had great food on both evenings. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was a little disappointing- no fridge, no safe and very dim bedside lights. Nice bathroom though.
Very pleasant stopover
The hotel location close to the M6 was ideal for an overnight stay to break up our trip to Scotland from the south east. The grounds were pretty & relaxing. The room was nicely fitted out, however it could be improved with a larger bed and coffee machine. The evening meal and breakfast were well presented and tasty. During the day, no catering facilities were available presumably due to balancing staff with number of customers. Overall very pleasant but pricey for what was on offer.
Ģood stay
Comfortable room, just a little noise from upstairs.Nice dinner and breakfast.
Overall very good
We are reasonably frequent customers as we have family in the villageThe hotel interior is well designed and comfortableThe outdoor area has been improved and works wellBreakfast is included and is very good.We had a family lunch on Sunday which was excellent except for the roasties. Service was very good.We stayed in the Hazel room this time which was fine but absolutely no wi fi which is not acceptable especially when you phone provider has no signal
Lovely hotel
An ideal hotel for our weekend visit to the Carlisle area. Great location, excellent food and very friendly staff, who made us feel most welcome. We'd definitely stay there again.
Lovely stay
Perfect location close to motorway yet very rural . Great location for breaking a journey north to south. Very helpful team delicious restaurant
Amazing
Absolutely beautiful, food was amazing staff very friendly will definitely be coming back
great
great overnight stay
Relaxing stay
Thank you to the friendly and efficient staff at Willowbeck. We had a great time staying with while seeing family in the village. Very tasty breakfast.
2 night stay in Hazel
A warm welcome on arrival, a very clean and comfortable room in a beautiful setting. The restaurant was also very clean with excellent staff who were knowledgable and helpful. The food was of great quality and delicious - compliments to to chef and kitchen team.My only concern was that there were no windows to open for proper ventilation, only the sliding door which was no suitable for overnight opening.Thank you for a really lovely stay.
Wonderful Place
An Excellent Hotel, beautiful rooms, very nice and dedicated people
Excellent Stay with Delicious Food
Tried to book this place on our last journey but it was fully booked. Now we know why.Hospitality, staff, service and the food are all first class (scallops and king prawns highly recommended).Willtry to plan ahead on our next journey to or from the Cairnryan ferry to enjoy another stay at this lovely place. We had the oak room which was spacious and comfortable .Thank u Norma & John Wilkinson
Excellent
This hotel is a gem. It is only minutes from the motorway but very quiet and tranquil. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We stayed in Hazel, a ground floor room with its own terrace. The room was freshly decorated and very comfortable. Would recommend the lobster and the mussels from the dinner menu but must also mention the breakfast Eggs Benedict- best I have ever tasted !
A beautiful boutique hotel
This is a beautiful boutique hotel. The decor in our bedroom was sophisticated and elegant. The food was amazing and the dining room simple and comfortable. All the staff cannot do enough for you and are kind and thoughtful. The surroundings of this small hotel are also very peaceful.Wish we had booked to stay longer!
Excellent
A really excellent place. Ultra clean and modern bathrooms and very good service. Thanks
Top class all round
Couldn’t have been nicer! I had a nightmare journey getting to Willowbeck due to accidents on the m5 so arrived very late! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful! They went above and beyond ! Stunning place that is clean and friendly. Breakfast was superb
Lovely friendly hotel
Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was small but spotless and had everything we needed. Quiet location, had an excellent dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Decor bright and airy. Highly recommend
A great find
What a lovely Oasis just off the M6.Bed very comfortable. Room spotlessly clean. Big shower. Great breakfast. Very quiet and peaceful in a pretty village with a nice pub a short walk away.
Outstanding
Very comfortable indeed. Food amazing and excellent value. Very quiet for a good night’s sleep . Great building and lovely setting - I’ve already booked to come again
Ideal stopover
We stayed here in a small double room on our way from the south to Scotland following a recommendation from friends as it's ideally situated near junction 43 of the M6. We were not disappointed. The room was well appointed and clean, the staff friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant excellent. We shall stop there again should we be passing by.
Excellent
Stayed here for just one night. Pleasant room, very clean. Good restaurant with good views over a pond and gardens.
On route stopover
Perfect location on route to Scotland, lovely hotel in super location, room very comfortable and plenty of space, restaurant and food first class.
A relaxing, restful stopover just off the M6
A truly relaxing, comfortable stopover, beautifully appointed
Excellent
We have stayed at Willowbeck Lodge before and it was just as lovely and friendly this time previously. Excellent menu and quality food in the restaurant, just a pity its 250 miles away!
Party
Great venue for a private party
Luxury Stay
Luxurious accommodation set in beautiful surroundings. Stayed in the Oak room with a top class bedroom and en-suite fabulous bathroom.
Birthday Treat
From arrival to departure was first class service, the Hazel room gorgeous as was food and surroundings. Thank you Andrew and all your staff for a wonderful break away x
Idyllic place
Very disappointed to receive a phone call to say there would be no eveningmeal available on the Sunday evening, so we had to find somewhere in Carlisle to eat. Then when we checked in and got into our room which was fabulous by the way we were informed on a piece of paper that no food or alcohol could be consumed in our room....come on please ....WHY... very surprised and disappointed at this.
Perfect location, friendly staff and amazing food.
We stopped in on our way up to Inverness.Beautiful location. The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly. We enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast the following morning. We would definitely recommend this place and will be sure to visit again if we are passing.
Comfortable and pleasant stay
We only stayed one night but Willowbeck was perfect. A friendly welcome, gorgeous room and delicious breakfast what more could we want?
A gem of a Hotel
Clean and well appointed room.Staff warm and friendly. I would recommend a stay here. We enjoyed it.The owner has plans to develop the beautiful site further so it will require extra parking areas as just on the limit at the moment when full.
Excellent
Lovely small hotel , staff really pleasant and helpful. Food was amazing. Rooms spacious and spotless, bed was very comfortable
Birthday stop over
Great place lovely clean room. Really quality foodNo wifi in the room (no phone signal either)
Superb as always.Very accommodating. Beautifully clean and lovely food. Will unhesitatingly visit again soon
Professionally run.wonderful food and spotlessly cleanFive star quality
Very pleasant relaxing environment
Lovely setting. Staff very helpful. Comfortable room.Good food in restaurant. Could add shelf in shower for personal toiletries.
A Wonderful Stay.
We stayed for three nights and had a wonderful relaxing time. The hotel room was lovely and we were so well looked after by everyone. Food was delicious and we were particularly impressed by the breakfast choices. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with lots of parking available. A great find which we will definitely be staying at again when we are next in the area.Thank you so much to Andrew and all the staff.
Willow Room
Very comfortable room.Good food.Host very welcoming. We would definitely stay again and recommend to our friends and family.
.absolutely fabulous
Great place immaculate in every way staff are so welcoming fodd amazing we definetly be coming back. Thankyou for looking after us.
Excellent stopover
Excellent stopover on way to Scotland.Located just off the M6 in a lovely setting. The room was a good size, very clean and comfortable. Lovely restaurant where dinner and breakfast were both very good. Staff all very friendly and helpful and wouldn't hesitate to stay again next time we visit Scotland.
Had to come back because it was so good.
Very enjoyable second stay.Great staff who can't do enough for you and just so relaxing.Good food and the IPA is the best.
Wonderful stay
Very peaceful, great sleep, delicious meals, very helpful and kind hosts!
A Little Gem
We picked this hotel because of the walk-in showers in rooms - safer than over-bath for oldies like us. Lovely situation, really quiet. Modern, light and airy. Excellent staff. Full marks for fantastic service. Very handy for the Lakes, Dumfries & Galloway and the Penines. We will return.
It was superb
Great place to stay - excellent food - thanks chef! Nice helpful staff and very clean.
Fabulous
We found a little Gem of a place with a lovely setting, comfortable stylish accommodation, very personable friendly staff and now to the food…. Wow! Quality ingredients both fresh and well cooked, cannot fault. Will we return? Without a doubt. Thank you to all.
Lovely
Our first stay at Willowbeck and I really hope it won’t be our last. The staff were brilliant. They all possess just the right balance between professionalism and friendliness which is a very difficult thing to achieve.Well done!We loved the laid back atmosphere. The food was amazing and the welcome fantastatic. We will be travelling between Surrey and the Isle of Lewis regularly for at least the next two years and have been looking for somewhere to stay.We will definitely stay at Willowbeck again but may not be able to for every stay as we will be towing a large trailer on some trips and the parking doesn’t appear to be able to accommodate that. Thanks for a fab stay, we had a lovely time and the lobster was amazing.
Lovely relaxing stay
Lovely family run, small quiet hotel. Cheery attentive staff. Tasty food and fantastic breakfast choice.
Brilliant
Excellent location , hotel is excellent decor and and staff couldn’t be more helpful. Definitely be back
First rate stopover
a perfect overnight stop for an M6 journey. Room attractive and spacious wit a lovely view over the garden. All staff attentive and pleasant
Comfortable peaceful
A secluded set back lodge with excellent facilities and luxurious bathroom. Service in the restaurant was excellent and unobtrusive.
An excellent 2day stay
We really enjoyed our stay at Willowbeck Lodge. The rooms were immaculate and dinner on both evening were delicious. We certainly will stay here again when we are in the Carlisle area .
Tranquil location on the outskirts of Carlisle
Stayed for 2 nights in Eva's luxury king size room which was accessed separately to the main house. The room was fairly luxurious and decorated in a contemporary style. The bed was extremely comfortable. One minor niggle was that the bathroom door was made of heavy wood panelling which made it quite difficult to open and close.I would also have liked to see a toothbrush holder and full length mirror - maybe just me being picky.Breakfast is good but you do have to choose and order the day before. The wi-fi was a bit patchy. The setting is tranquil and there is lots of wildlife to observe around the pond.Overall a very pleasant stay.
Pleasant stay no problems
Nice setting skip and container were a bit of an eye sore however I am sure you are working on it. Everything else was very nice, friendly staff and everything went smoothly.
A gorgeous place to stay
Thank you Andrew and all the staff at Willowbeck, in particular, Stephanie, for a lovey stay with superb service and lovely food.
Very Good
Lovely secluded hotel close to J.43 of the M6. Beautifully designed rooms and a very good restaurant too. Staff were all lovely although there were clearly too few of them which led to frustrations on both sides. When the need arises we will definitely return.
Excellent Hotel located just off M6 junction
Very comfy hotel with well decorated rooms. Restaurant is excellent with good choice for bot dinner and breakfast. My food intolerance were well catered for. Staff are very friendly and professional. Really handy for the M6 motorway.
Excellent stay
Delightful location, excellent accommodation and very attentive service. We'll be back soon!
Excellent all round
Beautiful location.Room had everything you would want. Newly refurbished.Excellent food for dinner and breakfast.LOVELY staff - very friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble.Very good value.Perfect stop on our way to Scotland.Highly recommend.
b and b one night eva room
nice room great food great staff thank you
Exceptional
A real surprise and hard to fault anything at all. Fantastic room, great breakfast and dinner, fabulous staff. Our only negative comment is very poor internet/wifi but this is not a fault of the property. My own phone only achieved half a bar on a 3G network.
Brilliant
a really lovely overnight stop. The food was superb - if we had food like that in London it would have Michelin stars; lovely staff; glorious location and we would definitely recommend it to anybody.
Lovely
This is a really lovely place to stay. Very pretty location, comfy beds, clean room and a great breakfast.
Excellent stay and beautiful environment
Lovely place with family feeling and very nice host.
Quiet and peaceful
Had a great stay at the lodge.Easy to get to off the motorway and in a nice secluded location. The room was large with everything you'd need and bed was massive! Ate in the restaurant on our second night and it was really nice.Staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be back
Great accommodation
We stayed at Willowbeck on the way to Scotland many years ago and enjoyed our overnight stay; hence, we're back again! The expansion since our last stay is stunning. We again very much enjoyed our overnight stay and will return again, when travelling this way.
Pleasant style just outside Carlisle
A lovely boutique hotel with a good kitchen and nice food. Our bedroom was a bit awkward as you couldn’t walk to one side of the bed without bending down… otherwise you would hit your head on the skeiling.
Exceeded expectations
Such a lovely overnight stay! The location is great, a relaxing/ zen like vibe.We stayed in the Cedar Lodge & The Oak hotel room, I’d recommend both! The lodge was really lovely, with a log burner. It had a little back garden area with table and chairs. The Oak room had an amazing bathroom, the bath was big/ deep & powerful shower.Food was really nice, very tasty and well presented. We had both evening and breakfast, both great! The dining area is so nice, big windows looking onto the water.Lovely touches throughout, seating areas inside & outside, glass bottled water in rooms, nice thick towels, hair dryers etc.The staff were really nice too. We had a really nice time & highly recommend a visit!
Very good overnight stop
Very good stay. Hotel is ideally positioned if travelling as it is only about a mile from M6 junction. Room was compact but comfortable and both evening dinner and breakfast were very good. Friendly and helpful staff too.
Superb
Very warm welcome, really lovely staff and great setting. Food (we had both dinner and breakfast) is fantastic.
thoroughly enjoyable
This was a lovely find. Beautiful room and great food, really enjoyed my stay.
Great stay
Lovely setting, sorry we didn't have time to explore the surroundings. Nice room and comfortable bed.
Great
Lovely and friendly, would stay again when in the area
Breaking the long journey
Excellent experience - clean comfortable hotel with very friendly and efficient staff in quiet and convenient location. Perfect for an overnight stay to break a long journey from the Scottish Highlands
Lovely boutique hotel
Sadly the room was very tiny and the bathroom even more so. First hotel room I have been in with no wardrobe!Food in the restaurant was excellent as was the service
Aussie view
Very lovely venue, the bathroom was amazing. Good brekkie, peaceful location. Give this place a definite thumbs up 👍🏻
Delightful lodge
Great location, excellent service, quality breakfast and excellent dinner. Highly recommend and will use again.
Over night stay on route to Orkney
Booked a room at Willowbeck lodge to break our journey up to Orkney, the room was really comfortable and had a Juliette balcony overlooking the lake, extremely peaceful place and lots of wildlife and despite being not to far from main roads there was no traffic noise. We ate our evening meal at the lodge which was really nice and the lady serving us was extremely attentive. I will definitely book Willowlodge again and recommend to others.
Great stopover
Short distance from M6 but wonderfully quiet and attractive grounds. Dinner was very good and service excellent. Same with the tasty breakfast. The room was the newer modern lodge type looking over the beautiful garden; very comfortable spacious room and en suite bathroom. Really well looked after by the owner and staff - would definitely stay again if on same trip up to Scotland and highly recommend.
Wonderful boutique hotel, great room, excellent food, friendly welcome
Only 5 mins from the motorway this was a superb place to stay. The hotel is small but offered a very warm and personal service, superb large room and first class food. Will definitely stay again.
Beautiful
This hotel is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. The room we booked (the willows) was beautiful and so cosy. We had breakfast in the morning and we really enjoyed it, it was to high standard. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend and we will definitely be back. Many thanks xxx
Superb
Thoroughly enjoyable stopover at this wonderful hotel in a tranquil, natural location. Superbly comfortable room and excellent dinner and breakfast. Andrew was a wonderful host and staff were all friendly and welcoming. Would thoroughly recommend & would definitely stay again when travelling to Scotland.Thankyou
Excellent
The room was large and spacious with a great view. Very clean with good quality bed and bedding. The on site restaurant was excellent in the evening and again at breakfast in the morning. The staff were excellent. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Two night break
Amazing tranquil setting, very relaxing .Hotel was spotless. Staff very friendly.Food was amazing .
A very special place!
We stayed at Willowbeck Lodge on our way to visit our daughter in Scotland. We received a very warm welcome from Andrew who showed us to our lovely room. The bed was very comfortable and everything spotlessly clean. Breakfast was very impressive with lots of choices. It was superbly presented and absolutely delicious. Thankyou so much.
Excellent
Beautiful hotel in beautiful location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms very modern and spotlessly clean and food delicious..
Fabulous overnight at end of Hadrian's Wall walk.
We had a wonderful stay at the end of our walk- what a treat. Beautiful big room, very comfy bed, wonderful shower and delicious food. Only suggestion would be if you could offer a 'local' beer- even bottles would be nice.
Lovely and Peaceful Place
Stayed one night and really enjoyed it. Great room and comfy bed. Food is really nice and hospitality is outstanding. Friendly and welcoming staffWe would definitely stay againThankyou

Fabulous overnight stay
We arrived at Willowbeck Lodge after golfing nearby . Friendly welcome for ourselves and our friends . We had a delicious meal in the restaurant and then relaxed in the comfortable resident's lounge . Our rooms were beautifully furnished and everything was spotless. We enjoyed our overnight stay in these lovely surroundings.Thank you so much to all the staff.
RELAXING STAY IN BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS
ON ARRIVAL WE WERE GIVEN A VERY WARM WELCOME BY REBECCA AND CLARRISA WHO KINDLY CARRIED OUR BAGS UP TO OUR ROOM (AS WE WERE UNABLE DUE TO RECENT OPERATIONS) AS A LAST MINUTE WE BOOKED ONE NIGHT IN THE MAPLE ROOM WHICH IS A SMALLER ROOM BUT STILL PLENTY OF SPACE TO ACCOMMODATE 2 PEOPLE, SPOTLESS WITH A LOVELY COMFY BED. DINNER WAS BEAUTIFULLY PRESENTED AND GREAT QUALITY AND THE BREAKFAST WAS EQUALLY AS GOOD. THE STAFF GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE YOU FEEL WELCOME AND EVEN TAKE THE TIME TO CHAT WITH YOU. AFTER RELAXING OUTSIDE WITH A DRINK, TAKING IN THE GORGEOUS VIEWS ACROSS THE SMALL RIVER, LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF THE BIRDS, WE DECIDED TO LOOK ONLINE AND BOOK ANOTHER NIGHT, THIS TIME IN THE CEDAR WHICH IS A BEAUTIFUL 2 BEDROOM LODGE WITH WRAP AROUND DECKED BALCONY.SUPER COMFY ALL ROUND AND SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. WE COULD NOT HAVE WISHED FOR ANYTHING BETTER. ON DEPARTING, ANDREW (THE OWNER) CAME OUT TO HAVE A CHAT AND TALKED ABOUT WILLOWBECK AND HOW IT ALL STARTED.HE HAS MADE A BEAUTIFUL JOB OF CREATING SOMETHING REALLY SPECIAL. WE HAVE STAYED IN A LOT OF BEAUTIFUL HOTELS ETC AND THIS LODGE IS AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER. WE EVEN BOOKED AGAIN FOR NEXT MONTH FOR TWO NIGHTS IN THE CEDAR GARDEN SUITE, WE HAD NOT EVEN CROSSED THE BORDER...THAT'S HOW GOOD WILLOWBECK LODGE IS.
Excellent
Great place to stay.Very clean rooms.Food was excellent, both dinner and breakfast.Andrew was a delight to talk with and was so helpful.
Hidden Gem
Good things come in small packages!A beautiful little hotel, tucked away on the edge of the village, in a lovely spot.Food excellent, rooms tasteful and comfortable, owners dedicated and charming, staff attentive. What else can you wish for.....plus nature watching over the pond when eating in the restaurant!
Friendly and nice
Le restaurant est très bon, plats variés et bien travaillés.
Service With A Smile
From the minute we arrived to the when we left it was a pleasure to stay in such a beautiful accommodation. The rooms were clean and well presented, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, the food was exceptional. An upgrade on our original room booking was not a problem and done within minutes. The surroundings were perfect to relax and unwind... Highly Recommended

Great stopover in a beautifully presented hotel
Willowbeck Lodge provided a very warm welcome in a lovely spot which, despite being only a few minutes from the motorway, was a real haven of tranquillity. At the same time, Carlisle with all its attractions is very accessible. Lovely staff, great food and beautifully appointed bedrooms. What's not to like about this charming boutique hotel?
Another lovely stay
Yet another lovely stay for the night at willowbeck hotel. Super room and great service at dinner and breakfast, very good chef. I was particularly pleased to hear they are installing heat pumps to heat the building, wonderful green investment, hope you guys get it up and running soon. Look forward to staying with again in the future.
Great
A lovely calm oasis with delicious food.
Mr and Mrs
We knew, originally, that we needed a double room but my husband needed a room, withnear the bredeeeee.Room for both but easily near downstairs( my husband had a broken neck)I think 2 steps we were told. Then I had to ask again and told that somebody would be there. However somebody had another room, near thembut not so near. The young lady was pleasant and tried to help.Horrendous for us and men were working all round the bedroom on the morning…..dirty. EtcAt night, no light outside….to get inEven the girl had to get the light on for a while……I had to ask for a room opened at a lounge,to help less time. The lady said on the lounge , evening, she would ask themorning lady (8 30 am)to have it opened but… noI had to leave Barry outside ( terrible pain) and come in to ask the lady. She obviously knew that but came on.Breakfast…..expensive so expected it well.Bones for fish….horrendousHad to ask for1.sugar2one tiny toast…halved so asked more….one slice for one of it….asked for a little butter…..asked again some jamYoursShena Cuttle,
Super stay
Had a lovely stay at WillowbeckStaff weee great and room, dinner and breakfast fabulous.Won’t hesitate to book again when next in the area ( in 2 weeks!)
Lovely building in a lovely setting before the main course.
We chose the Willow room, which was well appointed. The star of the suite was the bathroom with both a bath (getting rare these days) and a good walk-in shower. The shower could be improved by providing a non-slip mat as it did get dangerously slippery when used. Our view of the pond was good from the room. Our meal was pleasant and we liked the sitting room for drinks beforehand.Breakfast was OK but there were a few areas for improvement.I didn't get my fruit and yogurt before the main course.I ordered the avocado dish and specified I didn't want any chilli sauce.Unfortunately there was a paste underneath the avocado on the toast which definitely had chilli in it.It made my tongue go 'on fire' and I couldn't taste the rest of the dish.Maybe I should have said I was allergic to chilli instead of saying I didn't want it!!!!!!The dining area is a lovely place to sit.We were woken up by the workmen who were doing ground works in the pouring rain. They had to give up when their trench filled with water. It did spoil our view both from the room and from the restaurant. It rained the whole time we were there so we couldn't walk round the pond (even if it hadn't been half boarded off for the work). We really liked the atmosphere of the inside of the place and would like to return when a) the ground work is finished and b) when it isn't raining!
Excellent accommodation and good restaurant
Accommodation, food and service were all excellent. Impossible to fault.
Excellent
Nice room, good food and very friendly staffWe enjoyed our stay and look forward to our next visit on return from Scotland
Pretty Lodge
Beautifully clean, characterful hotel in a lovely setting. The staff were friendly and helpful. The places to relax around the hotel were lovely. The breakfast was plentiful, there was a good choice, and it was well cooked. I believe we were in the smallest room - Beech. It is very small but was tastefully furnished with a comfortable bed, but guests should be aware that the sloping eaves are so intrusive that they are hazardous. My husband is 6 foot and was only able to use one side of the room. At average height, even I had to duck my head and bend to get to bed. There are no drawers and no place, except in the shower room, to hang coats, or anything else. It is not satisfactory to hang coats and jackets in a shower room. A hook on the room door would have sufficed. There are also no drawers so we had to leave our clothes in the suitcase on the floor. As at our last visit to the hotel, in a different room, we found the shower slippery and there was no shower mat or handle. Because of these issues I have not awarded five stars. I’m sure guests in other rooms would.
Very welcoming
A beautiful property with friendly staff & comfortable rooms. The restaurant is open & nicely set out & the food was excellent.
Another lovely visit
We have now stayed at Willowbeck many times as a lovely stop over on our way up and down to Wales from Scotland. We look forward to each time we visit. This time refurbishments had recently taken place and the dining room and guest lounge were looking wonderful. We enjoyed a lovely stay and meal in the restaurant. It is so close to the M6, which is great for stopping en route, but it feels so quiet and peaceful. We would recommend it to anyone and we certainly wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Lovely setting
We stayed at this hotel because we were meeting up with friends that live locally. The hotel looks very impressive and is in a lovely setting. We had a very nice meal in the restaurant and breakfast was very good.
Stay Here
A wonderful surprise on our overnight stop. A beautiful room that was excellently furnished and equipped supplemented by a very warm welcome from all staff. Our food was well cooked and presented at both evening and morning meals. We have no hesitation in recommending Willowbeck Lodge.
Sublime
Peaceful and lovely surroundings.eva's room is all that you can hope for and the restaurant delivers effortlessly. I would thoroughly recommend and travellers to stay or even a romantic getaway.
Superb hotel
Had a 4 night stay whilst visiting family. rooms facilities service and food were all first class. Would definitely stay again when in the area

Excellent site and rooms, food and service really good.
Lovely stay
We've stayed several times and always had a lovely experience. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the rooms are really comfortable and a really nice environment. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast, and we look forward to coming back!
Excellent stay
We enjoyed an excellent stay on Friday 22nd March 2024. We opted for the Dinner/ bed and Breakfast option and can confirm that both the food and accommodation was of a very high standard. Andrew the owner was very friendly and helpful and we will definitely be staying there again.
Thoroughly enjoyable
This was the second time we have stayed at Willowbeck, the first since their refurbishment. We again welcomed the peaceful ambiance, and the room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The bed was just so comfortable, we had a very good sleep. The shower / toilet had been renovated and was clean, with lovely shower cubicle. Overall, we were pleased to see the new features since our previous visit.Fini's Kitchen provided good quality, fresh ingredients for dinner and the breakfast set us up for the day ahead.Altogether, a very relaxed stay with welcoming staff who would move mountains if asked. Would recommend to our friends.
Beautiful stay
Wow what a lovely hotel in a perfect location just off the M6. The hotel and restaurant where totally flawless. We booked the Willow room which was large and spacious. The decor of the room was to an extremely high standard as was the bathroomOur evening meal was extremely good. Breakfast was really good
Great
Very clean, tidy and spacious room. The breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend!
What was it like?
Excellent hotel, very clean and comfortable.food and hospitality was excellent, will certainly recommend
Brilliant!
Good location for accessing Carlisle Hadrian's Wall walks & even Northern part of Lake District. Recently refurbished & very comfortable built in a tranquil lake setting beautiful in March & no doubt stunning in the Summer! No traffic noise. Owner Andrew & his staff could not have been more helpful & added bonus Andrew can also double up as chef- his battered fish was fabulous!
Warm, welcoming and outstanding quality
Everything about Willowbeck Lodge is of a high standard. Our room was clean, warm, opulent and relaxing.Dinner and breakfasts were perfect and all members of the team were welcoming, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We used it as a base for walking and catching up with friends.A very special place with a unique blend of being close to the coast and walking routes but just minutes from Carlisle by car.Highly recommended
Very nice indeed.
I am very happy with absolutely everything at the Willowbeck Lodge. Loved our room by the pond. The breakfast was very good. Dinner at Fini restaurant within the Willowbeck Lodge was very good. All the staff throughout were amazing. I shall be very happy to recommend Willowbeck Lodge to all my friends.

A real find
I had such a comfortable stopover here en route from Bristol to Scotland,I can fully recommend in every way: the food was delicious (dinner and breakfast), the service was friendly and attentive, and I had an amazing sleep in a very clean and comfortable room. It's a great location just a mile or so from the M6 in a quiet and pretty village. As a solo female traveller, I look for comfort and respect; Willowbeck Lodge fully met these needs. I am so pleased I found this place, I almost want to keep it secret!
Beautiful
The place is very cosy and gives that romantic vibe. And it’s close to the motorway, which I was we liked, staff at the front room was very welcoming. Breakfast was yummy.
Nice place
Nice place in a pleasant setting. Tastefully decorated. Good personal service. Food excellent. The room I was allocated (Maple) was good but an 'attic' room and therefore restricted height area & therefore too small and with no wardrobe.Presume that other rooms are larger.
Excellent
The hotel was lovely, staff welcoming, food very good and the room was spacious with a fantastic bathroom.
Excellent stopover
Always stay here to break our journey up toScotland. Great location just off the M6. Lovely accommodation in tranquil setting. Friendly staff & restaurant serves good quality food.An excellent find!
warm and comfortable room and excellent dinner
Stopover from the M6 and a blissful nights sleep in a warm and comfortable ground floor room.Excellent dinner as well! Will stop by again :-)
Amazing
A fantastic pit stop on our trip to Scotland. Everything, everyone, was amazing, such a gem.
Superb hotel
Absolute gem of a hotel. Couldnt have been more welcoming and helpful as we were travelling with our 1 year old. Really went above and beyond to help us. Beautiful, clean and spacious room. Delicious breakfast. Will definitely stop here again.
Excellent
Another delightful stay at this lovely hotel. Staff excellent, accommodation excellent. Food excellent
Great spot for short break
Wanted to try this hotel for a while as love ❤️ Grasmere and so glad we did. From the warm welcome at reception by Moses with helpful information about the hotel and surrounding area we couldn’t fault the staff. Housekeeping do an excellent job of keeping everything clean and tidy. We enjoyed relaxing in the spa finding this a tranquil environment. Food wise breakfast was mainly buffet with a wide choice to suit most tastes. We ate dinner both nights and enjoyed the dishes ssmpled
lovely place nice setting with small pond .
Had lovely stay ,bed was comfertable, 2 pkts biscuits would hace been nice as there was 2 if us ,had problem with tv lost its signal and wouldnt turn off so had to sleep with it on all night ,apart from that would stay again ,breakfast was excellent as well thank you.
Stunning Lodge and 5 Star Service
Absolutely beautiful lodge in quiet peaceful location, great atmosphere on arrival and we were greeted by owners who made us feel welcome. Our room was beautiful with lovely personal touches, gorgeous products in the bathroom and a comfortable bed.Breakfast was first class with many delicious options, the French toast with bacon and maple syrup was amazing and the little yogurt, fruit and granola was just perfect.Thank you so much for a lovely overnight stay.
Excellent
Had a lovely stay. Great staff.
Very good
Accommodation was very good and the staff friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Due to prior arrangement we had arranged to eat with family but I am sure the evening meal would have been excellent.
Absolute perfection
Stayed here for one night to spend time with my sister. I live in Manchester and she lives in Carlisle. The welcome by Stephanie was lovely, she was so kind and professional. Lovely rooms (Oak and Ash) and amazing dinner with the best mushroom starter I have ever had (and I eat a lot lol). Served by Chloe at dinner and in the snug, she too could not have been nicer and more helpful. Breakfast was lovely too, served by another excellent staff member Lesley, (sorry if wrong name).I will be back and can highly recommend this beautiful hotel. To the owner - your staff made our experience, you obviously know how to pick the right people for the right job. Thank you everyone.
Eva’s cottage is perfect for families
Lovely hotel. Stayed one night to break up a a journey. The little bunk room was perfect for our 10 and 12 year olds.Great service and breakfast.
Lovely welcome and staff
When we arruved we were welcomed by the owner who was lovely . Very friendly and welcoming. The beautiful log fireplace warmed us up straight away.He asked us to fill in forms for what we would like for breakfast, the choice was fantastic and it was very tasty.Room and Bathroom was very clean, which I loved.Albeit it was rather small.Only negative thing was that the bathroom fans are rather noisy and you can hear the fans from the rooms next door to, as the walls are thin. But then again I am a very light sleeper. The grounds and lakes are truely iddylic.Thankyoy for a lovely stay.
Another super comfortable stay
Our third stay at Willowbeck was every bit as good as before. Friendly staff, immaculate rooms, super comfy bed, great food. We’llbe back.
Very comfortable stay, excellent service
The hotel is lovely, very comfortable and all staff were very helpful and friendly.
Excellent
Andrew the owner very accommodating and provided a solution for my mother to avoid booking two rooms. The staff were very helpful and professional and personal.Just one recommendation to any guests booking. Read the instructions provided. I didn't and there was an awkward moment and still Andrew and team went the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect. Many thanks again to Andrew and the team.
Great location and a real surprise
A fantastic overnight stay en-route to Scotland.Lovely large clean room, great breakfast and really helpful staff. We will definitely return.

The owner always seemed present and avaialble for a chat, making time for each customer.
Our 3 Day Stay
Great location. Lovely room. Good food. Friendly staff. Made very welcome. Thanks.
One night stay
Made to feel very welcome!Breakfast very nice!Room very clean, although we should have looked at a bigger sized room. Cosy it definitely was!
Perfect
Beautiful hotel in great surroundings. Watched deer in the trees and otter in the pond whilst having our delicious breakfast.Staff were really helpful, nothing was too much trouble. See you again.
Without Hesitation, Come Here
Found this delightful place on researching an overnight stop en route Scotland. What a find! A couple of easy miles from the motorway, it is a haven of tranquility. Our room, Willow, was spacious with long windows overlooking the lake. Super king , comfortable bed, beautifully appointed, walk through dressing area to enormous bathroom with big corner bath and separate shower. Everything spotless.A “ northern welcome” from attentive, friendly staff. We ate in the restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. My husband declared his pork chop the best ever! The salmon fish cakes for me were best ever, being a fishy mix of fresh and smoked salmon served with a delicious sauce. The following evening, returning from a funeral, we were not very hungry, and the chef readily agreed to split the steak meal between us.Good breakfasts….with a wee niggle that the orange juice is described as fresh, which I understand to be freshly squeezed, which I doubt was the case, but that is being petty, in an otherwise faultless establishment. Highly recommended.
Great Stay
We always stay at Willowbeck on our journeys down from Scotland to Wales….wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Such easy access off the motorway, lovely friendly atmosphere. Rooms great, food great and staff really lovely. Would completely recommend.
Lovely greeting for our late arrival
We had travelled up from Oxford for over 5 hours in heavy traffic, the hotel team stayed late to look after us and we were made to feel welcome they offered food and even opened the bar!Room was very clean comfy and well equiped- would stay again and stunning location
Brilliant
Many thanks for a very enjoyable stay
Excellent
All was excellent at this hotel. This included the service and architecture. A really relaxing break supported by polite, friendly and competent staff.
Lovely relaxing hotel with a touch of sophistication
We had a super stay and enjoyed an excellent supper. The room was immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. We weee looked after very well.
in a word brilliant
while returning from a holiday in scotland i pre-booked 2 ground floor rooms with walk-in showers, the room, the staff and the hotel were all 1st class,we all enjoyed a evening meal and a great breakfast, would definitely stay here again.
Perfect
Our one night stopover was perfect. Willowbeck is a small friendly and efficiently run hotel ideally placed to break a journey to or from Scotland. Our room was large and airy, the staff could not do more to make us welcome and the food was delicious. We will be back!
Very nice overnight stay
We were driving from Devon to Inverness and stopped overnight.Friendly staff, nice room that was clean and charming grounds and atmosphere.Nice food too! Would happily stay there again.
recommended for sure
Great place. Crispy clean. Good food. In a quiet and adorable setting...
Very nice in a beautiful location
Very nice place to stay, we stopped here on our way to Scotland, the restaurant for dinner was very good, and breakfast excellent.
Very tranquil
The room and the grounds are beautiful.Breakfast good choices and very good.Evening meal very expensive and too. Many fish choices. Drinks expensive medium glass wine £8-75.3 slices brown bread £2'50
Highly Recommend
What a great hotel this is. The staff are very friendly and helpful and as it is privately owned rather then a chain you get a more personal experience. The rooms are large, spotlessly clean and have everything you need including bottles of water. We had dinner and breakfast, both of which were well cooked and plentiful and though not a large choice for dinner we all found something we liked. Will definitely be back, thank you
Excellent
We had a one night stay, after travelling from the south of England. The welcome atmosphere was warm our room decor was lovely and fresh a very comfortable bed, the en-suite was spotless clean with good quality towels. We had a delightful meal which was delicious complements to a first class chef. The breakfast was preordered the night before and again the food and service were excellent.
Loved it
What a beautiful little spot. We really enjoyed ourselves, we were made to feel very welcome from the beginning. We had afternoon tea on the Saturday, it was incredible! One of the best teas I've had. Breakfast on Sunday was perfect, attention to detail didn't go unnoticed. The room was lovely and clean, beautifully decorated and a great view of the hotel garden. The staff were fantastic, extremely attentive and professional but also gave it a homely feel. We would love to stay again, it was the perfect break away. Thank you very much
Amazing
Beautiful location, we stayed at the cedar lodge which was perfectly staged with all essential amenities. Staff where very friendly and very helpful, the breakfast was delicious would highly recommend and will be staying again!
Excellent

Absolute Oasis...
We just love it here! Stayed in the beautiful Eva's room, opulent with lovely comfy chairs, fab bathroom and your own little terrace to enjoy the calminglake and greenery in peaceful quiet.... Love that it's a small boutique hotel - so many larger hotels have 'wedding season' just now, you can't get served at the bar, and the noise is unbearable. We are just over an hour drive down from Scotland. Carlisle is a lovely tow, and the Gretna Outlets are nearby if you enjoy shopping.! The staff are absolutely lovely, and look after you very well- we WILL return.. wonderful break here -Thank you!
Wonderful end to our holiday
From the moment we arrived, we knew we’d made the right choice. A warm welcome to a lovely hotel in beautiful relaxing surroundings. Jo was an excellent host, with a great knowledge of wine, too. The menu was imaginative and the food beautifully cooked. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay.
Overnight stopover in delightful, convenient setting
We stayed at Willowbeck Lodge, surrounded by quiet countryside and a lake, for just one night, including an additional evening meal (sirloin steak) which was delicious, with an exceptional pepper sauce. Jo, who managed our stay, did so with complete professionalism and a warm welcome. The breakfast was equally flavoursome and carefully prepared. Our room was thoughtfully decorated, including a well equipped ensuite. Our only concern would be the sloping ceiling, which as 2 tall guests, was a slight hazard, now and then. Overall, an enjoyable stay, and perfectly situated near the motorway, enabling us to continue our journey to Scotland, refreshed and ready. Thank you.
Welcome break to the lake
Thoroughly enjoyed our short break at Willowbeck Lodge. Great location on the outskirts of Carlisle in the quaint village of Scotby for our first visit to Keswick and Derwent Water. Quality hotel and restaurant in a quiet rural setting. Clean and comfortable room (ash) overlooking patio and garden but no air conditioning.
Visit June 2023
Very comfortable and pleasant stay, with excellent breakfast and dining.
Cosy and polite
Very helpful, nice sleep and fantastic breakfast.
Lovely, relaxing stay.
Accommodation was spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant tables were well spaced and the views lovely. Staff were very welcoming and warm and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. A lovely place to stay.
Lovely hotel
Comfortable and well decorated hotel with a good restaurant. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Divine
A Wonderful place to retreat to if you are wishing to be pampered, consume beautifully cooked food and be cared for by very special people. Two nights was nowhere near long enough. We are looking forward to coming back. Thank-you so much.
Lovely
This hotel was a very happy find.It ticks all the boxes. We found the staff very helpful, the rooms well furnished and spotlessly clean and the feed was lovely..Willowbeck is in a glorious setting with a beautiful natural pond attracting wildlife. We will stay longer next time
The absolute oasis
This was our second visit, having only had two nights previously we wanted longer this time to take advantage of the whole ambianceand attention of the staff not to mention the food in the restaurant. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, as we have done many times.Thank you again to all the staff for a lovely weeks stay
Excellent
Very Comfortable and relaxing environment with such accommodating staff and management.Extremely well organised to ensure all the guests needs are met especially with meals.Would not hesitate highly recommending this establishment.
Very good
Excellent service food and situation, very pretty ,convenient for M6.Very expensive EV charging cost.
Beautiful hotel with fantastic service.Highly recommend
We stayed at Willowbeck Lodge in a group of friends for a surprise birthday celebration for one of the group.Everything was just perfect, and every member of the team provided 10/10 service. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are all stunning with everything we needed. We will now be looking for reasons to go back and stay again.
A little gem!
Lovely place with great staff, food and service
Excellent
Lovely relaxing stay great staff, food and accommodation
Excellent getaway
Really beautiful little hideaway near Carlisle. We stayed in the Cedars Lodge and it was spacious, private and well maintained and equipped. Breakfast was excellent
Stopover break
Travelling from Edinburgh to the Lake District this was intended as a stopover recovery point from a busy visit in Scotland, a long drive south and an expected crowded and hectic Lakes. It was indeed a peaceful haven with ducklings and a heron to set the scene on the large pond which fronts the lodge. Good weather helped the mood. Food was acceptable but not special.Room was small and access stairs very steep especially for two pensioners with luggage.Location is everything here. Easy access to Carlisle and the motorway. Excellent surroundings.Spotlessly clean. Peaceful but probably not for a longer stay.
Very good
Food and room was very good and I enjoyed my stay
Fabulous
Stayed here on the way home from Scotland Willowbecklodge was delightful setting was fabulous food really lovely and our bedroom Ash was absolutely spotless
Anniversary Treat
We stayed for 2 nights in Hazel Ground floor room. The room was beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean. We arrived early and were allowed into our room as soon as it was cleaned.Staff were very friendly and helpful.Did not meet or see the owner Andrew at all.Breakfast was lovely, very good portions! We ate in Fini’s restaurant and we were not disappointed.Food lovely.
An oasis of calm
Stunning hotel in a wooded valley, so peaceful it is very hard to believe you are 5 minutes from the motorway. All staff so welcoming and friendly. Gorgeous luxury room (Oak) and superb quality food.A great stay, will definitely come again.Thank you
Lovely spot, with beautiful rooms and a very good restaurant
The hotel is in a beautiful location overlooking a small lake. We stayed in Willow; a comfortable room with a lovely view of the lake. We dined in the restaurant, which is very good.
Great location
Superb locationI booked the maple room for 1 which was ok for 1 night.Mattress was very soft which was my only negative.Everything else was great.Especially breakfast, fresh and tasty
Small room
We’d booked a luxury lake view room based on photos on the website. The room we had Larch was nicely decorated but very small made worse by eves right by the bed and nowhere to open large suitcases. I banged my head really hard on the sloping eve while going to bed. The website should give room dimensions and point out the restricted space. Also our TV did not work. We complained and got a discount on our dinner but it was still rather annoying.
A wooded haven with birdsong, just off the M6
We broke the gruelling drive from Norfolk to the Mull of Kintyre here, and were really surprised by the quality of the accommodation, the excellence of the cuisine, and the peaceful, bird-filled grounds. You could not feel further from the motorway.Very comfortable, spacious room and a first class supper in the restaurant.Breakfast was a little more standard, but good. The building is modern rather than charming, and the staff are charming rather than modern.Highly recommended, we would stay here again.
Exquisite
Warm welcome, sensationally clean, beautiful, well appointed and equipped Cedar room. Our daughter has severe wheat and nut allergies and Willowbeck were very accommodating in assisting with that, its always a parent’s responsibility to keep a child safe but when restaurants offer some help it is greatly appreciated. Amelia travels everywhere with 2 epi pens and only two weeks prior to our trip we nearly lost her so we really appreciate the consideration given by the proprietors. Thank you.
Superb!
Definitely book a room here. Food in the restaurant was fantastic too. Can highly recommend this accommodation. Staff were amazing; couldn’t do enough for us! Thank you.
Excellent place to stay
Lovely hotel in a quiet peaceful location.Excellent food. All the staff enhanced our stay who were very friendly and helpful.
A beautiful place to stay
Wonderful location which was well situated for a stopover on our way to Scotland. Wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is stunning and very comfortable. The welcoming and friendly staffmade our stay very enjoyable.

We stayed overnight travelling home to Argyll, and really enjoyed our stay.Lovely surroundings, beautiful decor, and delicious food.Staff were so friendly and welcoming.
Travel stop off
Amazing hotel, will definitely stay again, everything was perfect, wonderful staff. Good value for money
Perfect Stay
Stayed in Eva's Cottage for one night on our way back from Scotland before heading for our ferry to the Isle of Man. What can I say. We were blown away by this beautiful place. Our self contained cottage with private patio was decorated beautifully and loved the bathroom. Our 2 year old was tired and had been in the car for around 3 hours so was a little grumpy. We were offered dinner in the restaurant but thought we would not inflict our tired little one on the other guests and patrons. In the most thoughtful and truly lovely act they said we could order food from the restaurant and have it on our patio.they did not need to do this and we were just so so grateful to everyone. The meals were delicious and could not fault the quality.Had a very restful night's sleep. Very comfortable bedding. Breakfast was pre order the night before. It was delicious, excellent quality and brilliant service.Overall we loved our stay and would not hesitate to come here again. Very easy access from the M6 and compared to the prices that some of the nearby chain 'hotels' were charging it was amazing value for money. Would recommend to anyone in the area.
Spacious, quiet, friendly staff
Travelling to and from Scotland this is a haven of peace just off the M6.Modern design, generous sized rooms with comfy chairs and large bathrooms (with bath and separate shower) make this the ideal place to take a break. There is a pleasant in house restaurant ( Fini) and you eat looking through large windows onto a small lake with plenty of wildlife. All very relaxing and the staff are helpful and friendly, taking time for a chat.
Excellent
Lovely location, lovely staff. Lovely clean room and lovely food…… what else can you want
Excellent place close to motorway
Delightful location looking out over the lake. Very comfortable room, good food, friendly staff, reasonable cost - and all so conveniently close to the M6.
Excellent
.
Very relaxing
Great place to stay. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable.Staff are excellent. Food is really good.Second time we've stayed here and we will be back.
Excellent Experience
Last minute booking for the night. Staff really accommodating and friendly. Dinner was at an end but they were happy to serve us. Room really comfortable, and Breakfast excellent. Will definitely go back for a longer stay and explore more of the area.
Fabulous stay on the way back from Scotland
This is the 2nd time I've stayed at Willowbeck Lodge on the way to and from Scotland. It's a fabulous place to stay and so calm and peaceful after lots of travelling. The rooms are fantastically comfortable, the staff extremely friendly (esp nice to be recognised) and the food top notch. Highly recommended and would love to stay for a few more days when visiting the north lakes. Thank you.
Great Hotel, Ideal Location
Willowbeck was ideally located for a stopover on our way back from Skye. It’s only a few minutes from the M6, tucked away in Scotby. Our garden view room was spacious, the bed comfy and breakfast was excellent.
Another excellent stay
This was our second stay, and once again it proved an excellent choice.Very comfortable and peaceful room, beautiful surrounding, delicious food for both dinner and breakfast.
Comfortable stay
Good location, very friendly staff. Good food but pricey.Comfortable bedroom nicely decorated.
Excellent
Willowbeck was a lovely place for a stopover.A quiet & comfortable room and the food and service were excellent.Thank you.
Great stay
This is an excellent overnight stop.Very tastefully decorated and comfortable bedrooms (Willow and Ash) with spacious bathrooms.Food was freshly cooked with locally sourced products.Would strongly recommend.
Pleasant stop over, convenient location
Charming little hotel with pretty garden and lake, well-placed to stop over on the way to Scotland. Slightly strange room (Hazel) with two large sliding glass doors overlooking the parking area meaning you have to keep the blinds shut or be on view. I would suggest frosted panels at least. But clean with a very modern shower room. In summer presumably it relies on air conditioning as there are no windows to keep open. Dinner was fine, if expensive (like everywhere now I suppose). You have to order breakfast the night before. Avoid the frazzled kipper and the coffee was very weak but otherwise good.
What a wonderful gem of a hotel
We are so pleased to have found this wonderful hotel and felt that we were unable to spend more time there. Wonderful location (close enough to the city but far enough away not to be bothered by it), well appointed room and comfy bed. Breakfast was great, and the staff were on it!! Would love to return some time for a leisure trip. Thanks.
Brilliant
What a wonderful find. We will definitely be backWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the food was delicious
Beautiful & Peaceful
We stayed for one night in Eva's Cottage, it was beautiful, comfortable and spotless. Wish we could have stayed longer! Bed was super comfortable. We had breakfast the next morning which was very good! Wouldn't definitely recommend to any couple. The room also opened into another bedroom for a family suite.
Great small hotel
Stayed recently, hotel is spotlessly clean with modern comfortable rooms. Grounds are very pleasant. Good choice of breakfast food. Dinner menu was good and food very nice. Staff were pleasant and efficient. Would definitely make return trip
Brilliant
What a surprise we never expected anything so fantastic! We’ve stayed in many places but nothing as perfect as this - everything just everything was wonderful - the room, the dining, the surroundings, the staff just everything. If we lived nearer we would dine here regularly, we will definitely stay here again. 5 star and if it was possible 10 start!
Peaceful
Enjoyed our stay here for four nights. Our room (Hazel) was spacious and very clean and comfortable. We tried different breakfasts during our stay and would say they were all really good. We had dinner on three nights during our stay. My husband enjoyed all his dinners but i did not enjoy one of my main courses. The sticky toffee puddings were scrumptious. There is a small lake in front of the lodge which adds to the setting and it attracted some interesting wildlife. An otter appeared on our first morning and also a heron paid a visit. Finally we would like to thank all of the staff who were amazing and very friendly. A big shout out to Stef who is a gem.
Perfect retreat with great service and food!
Really enojyed our stay. We couldnt be happier with the service and food options. Would definately go again!
Excellent
We stayed for one night on 13 April whilst travelling to Scotland. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The food in the restaurant was first class and our breakfast was also excellent, enhanced by the antics of the otter in the lake viewed from the window in the dining room. All the staff were very attentive and friendly without being intrusive.
Great stay
Lovely place to stay: very friendly and professional staff. Geat meal and little sitting room where I spent a couple of hours catching up with old friends before our meal.
Nice but wouldn't stay again
The room was very clean I wasn't too happy about the eaves in the room would of preferred a different room. The tea and coffee facilities were under the eaves so that wasn't great either. Dinner was ok apart from the chicken I had was a bit bloody in parts. There was a bit of commotion when we first arrived as we were told the car charging units were not working but then they were but theres a permanent car in front of them which isn’t helpful. There are no clear signs where reception is so was not sure where to go. There was also a very musty smell in the dining area. Breakfast was loverly. Staff are friendly.
A very comfortable stay.
Lovely staff, beautiful restaurant, comfortable bed, idyllic surroundings.
Amazing
Friendly staff, clean, large room, beautiful surroundings
Beautiful relaxing retreat
A beautiful place to stay- so quiet and relaxing. Rooms are small but perfectly laid out and really comfortable. Evening meal was exceptional- my partner was a chef/ general catering manager and he can’t remember having a steak as nice. Just a perfect meal.Breakfast however, was good but not as good as the evening before. Cooked full English was partly pre cooked, my eggs Benedict should have had spinach but didn’t. Don’t let this take away anything from a beautiful stay- we will come again for sure.
Beautiful stay
We stayed for a night only. The lodge was beautiful specially in the evening with the lights. Staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. Would definitely be back and highly recommend.
A beautiful B&B with an impeccable breakfast and spacious rooms
My partner and I stayed at Willowbeck Lodge as part of a holiday around England. Willowbeck was our “splurge” / fancy accommodation for our trip, and we found it to to be well worth the extra cost. The soaring glass windows in the restaurant / breakfast provided a peaceful and serene view of the Lodge’s garden pond, which we found very relaxing. The quality of the breakfast was of a very high standard, featuring a starter and then a main. We also dined at the restaurant for dinner one night, ordering steaks and desserts, and found both to be very tasty. Our room was very spacious and provided good views of the garden area (being on the second floor). The TV within our room also supported accessing streaming services such as Netflix - none of the other hotels which we stayed at had TVs supporting this.
Pleasant and friendly
Lovely atmosphere. Beautiful and peaceful location.Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our room was a little small. To be fair it did state this at time of booking, should we stay again we would book a different room.
Brilliant
We only stayed one night in this delightful small hotel but can’t wait to go back for longer. It was welcoming, comfortable, clean and served us the most delicious meal.I had grilled lemon sole, quite the best one I’ve ever eaten.
Perfection
You need to look nowhere else. The lodge ticks all the boxes. Peaceful, fabulous scenery , great food, wonderful staff, gorgeous room, perfect escapism.Travellers look no further if you want to just switch off and unwind. I would recommend this to anyone without a moment of hesitation.
Relaxing and friendly
Had a lovely stay with my mum and sister, very friendly.Think I’d choose one of the bigger rooms if I stayed again.Really clean, amazing breakfast. Will stay againThankyou.
ABSOLUTE GEM OF A HOTEL
I have stayed in all manner of hotels.I include the Hawaiian Four Seasons in that list. This is my favourite hotel in this country. From the moment you turn into the driveway this hotel does not disappoint. It gets everything right. The view is gorgeous, the ambience is contemporary but comforting. It is immaculately clean. Everywhere. The modern rooms and beds look cool and are warm and snuggly. The breakfasts are generous with vast options. Should you choose to dine in the restaurant (Fini’s) the food is high end and produces wows and sighs of contentment. There are lots of lovely touches. But the best thing about the Willowbeck is all its staff. Although a small team all are friendly, kind, helpful and efficient. Andrew, Steph and Jo are godsends. I’ve been back many times and I hope I will be back many more. Thank you Willowbeck
Beautiful place
Beautiful place. Lovely staff. Wonderful food
A hidden gem
Another very pleasant stay in this small hotel just off the M6 near Carlisle.Very comfortable rooms and excellent food, both at breakfast and at dinner
Relaxing
The staff was lovely. The room was comfortable. The food was yummy. It was a wonderful overnight experience.
A good choice
Very convenient for the M6, the hotel is perfect for breaking a journey. The location is super, the rooms are comfortable, the cooking is suitably innovative and the staff could not be more pleasant or helpful.
A beautiful place to stay, with great food and service
We selected this hotel as a last minute stop over on our way to another hotel. Ironically it’s this hotel we would visit again. Sat in its own tranquil spot, over looking a lake and very boutique but in a relaxing inexpensive way. We had a great nights sleep, lovely food and the service was second to none. We will definitely be back
Excellent Boutique hotel
Stayed one night whilst traveling. Had an enjoyable stay. Staff very friendly and food was good. Room was clean and comfortable. Would stay again.
Excellent!
Very nice hotel. Small and personal, very comfortable and warm, friendly staff. Would definitely rebook. Also meals, including dinner in 'Finis', the hotel's restaurant, were top rate.9/10. The dropped point is because the wifi connection in our bedroom kept disconnecting.
Exceptional stay!
Stayed for just 1 night - wish it could have been longer, staff amazing and property is stunning. Restaurant is a hidden gem. We will definitely be back.
First Class
It is difficult to find fault with our stay. The food was truly excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient. We would not book the standard double bedroom, even though we were simply passing through, as we are used to a larger bed at home. After a quick peek at the other empty rooms we have chosen one for our next stay. Already looking forward to it.
Fine
Excellent welcome, service through dinner and breakfast which was just right. Comfortable room but I could not get hot water for the shower before bed.
Lovely hotel
Fabulous hotel - beautifully clean, wonderful staff, excellent food. Location was very convenient (only a mile from M6) and yet tranquil. Our first time to this hotel - we will be back.
Beautiful
A stunning location, friendly staff and great food. We really enjoyed our stay.
Super Stay
Stayed in Cedar Lodge for a couple of nights. Super clean. Well equipped. Enjoyed the log burner although not really needed as the lodge was lovely and warm. Beds extremely comfortable. Slept very well as surroundings very peaceful. We'll be back to stay again.Breakfasts at Fini's Restaurant were superb - well worth paying the extra for a cooked breakfast! Service excellent. Evening meals very nice but a little pricey.
Still the same high standard
We stayed here before, in the Oak room. This time we were in the Hazel room on the ground floor. Both rooms are immaculately furnished and scrupulously clean. Of the two, I think we prefer the Hazel for its double shower rather than a bathtub.Meals (evening and breakfast) were delicious, and then restaurant is a comfortable place to relax. The best aspect of Willowbeck is the staff who are all friendly and welcoming.Thank you all, we will be back!
Lovely hotel
We stayed for a couple of nights. The room (Willow) was excellent and we had plenty of space. The staff were all very friendly and attentive.Breakfast was very tasty and lots of choice.Would definitely recommend this hotel and we will be back!
Like a big hug
Spotlessly clean, lovely setting and all the staff were absolutely delightful well recommended
Lovely
Beautiful accommodation in a Lovely setting. Dinner was delicious. The room was great. Perfect for a couple or family of three like us or a larger family.
Relaxing and comfortable..
Great location with very pleasant and helpful staff..Very clean and fresh all round...excellent food...
Amazing
Our second stay at willow beck lodge, handy to H&H Carlisle auction mart. The food was amazing and the room was gorgeous with everything we needed thanks again.
Lovely stay
We had a lovely stay, the staff were very accommodating and attentive. The food we had at finis restaurant was amazing best we have had in a long time! We would definitely return in the future, thank you
Very comfortable
Good size roomGreat food
Enjoyable stay
Had a very comfortable and peaceful stay and grateful to your helpful and responsive staff. Great location and setting, handy for Lakes and Wall. Enjoyed tasty dinner and breakfast.
Lovely Luxurious Gem
We chose Willow Beck for a final stop over on our way back from Skye. It certainly did not disappoint with lovely spacious accommodation and it definitely lived up to its rating. We were greeted and looked after by friendly staff who made us feel very welcome.Just a shame we were not staying for longer!
Great little find!!!
Absolutely lovely stay here, the lodge is in beautiful surroundings, luxury inside and out. The service is excellent. Breakfast and evening meal is a la carte and to a high standard. Customer service is excellent too. Highly recommend. Will definitely come back again.
Lived up to its 5 star reviews
A lovely place to stay: warm, welcoming staff; highly attractive, well appointed room, delicious food … and so close to the M6 (but also wonderful walks).Couldn’t really have asked for more.
It was very enjoyable and we felt quite at home with the surroundings and the staffWe can not praise
We cannot praise Andrew and his team highly enough, On every level our stay was top level our room, surroundings, food and especially the staff, from the lady that looked after our room, the ladies who served us our food, the chiefs who delivered excellent food to the highest of standards and of course Andrew the owner/manager who not only put this wonderful team together but is very much also hands on himself. To sum up a great time was had with no complants from us and we shall be returning in the not to distant future. Thank you all
Comfortable and convenient.
Comfortable bed, warm clean bathroom, good dinner - and moments from the motorway. Staff were lovely.
Hidden gem
Lovely location surprising you with the beautiful property as you approach. Rooms lovely and cosy. Breakfast amazing overlooking the grounds.
First class
Another first class stay at Willowbeck Lodge. Wonderful staff, great accommodation and excellent food
Excellent stay
Excellent staff and owner, stayed 2 nights, breakfast and eveningmeals were also excellent. Would stay again
Excellent
Excellent establishment. Suggest you serve gluten free sausages for Breakfast and this will then include for Coeliacs.
1 night stay
Hotel was lovely, in a beautiful settingStaff very nice and friendlyThe Larch room was £145 per night with breakfastThe breakfast was outstanding, the room for the price was disappointing, very small and noise from other guests was very loud as the rooms were too close togetherOtherwise nice stayMr Stephen Munro
Excellent
A very clean n friendly hotel with good food well cooked for breakfast n dinner. We were all made to feel very welcome from check in to check out.No doubt we will return (again).
Brilliant
As always, a warm welcome, amazing food, relaxed atmosphere, comfortable room
Highly recommend
Had a great one night stay here in Eva’s room, which was gorgeous. We had our evening meal in the restaurant, which was absolutely delicious as was breakfast the following morning. The staff are all lovely and the setting is beautiful. Just the perfect place for a relaxing break.
Great place to stay
Have stayed here several times before when travelling to/from Scotland/ Sussex.Very welcoming and friendly staff, super comfy beds and very well-appointed rooms. On this occasion we didn't have dinner in the restaurant as had been at a family get-together, but food is always excellent.Breakfast, as always, very generous and great choice.
Very relaxing
Lovely room and restaurant. Great location and the lake and trees make for a picturesque setting.Lovely friendly staff and great food in the restaurant.Highly recommend.
Outstanding
Thank you for making us feel like we had a home away from home
A great place to stay in this area.
This is everything the weary traveller needs. The staff are very welcoming, friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are to a high standard of comfort and cleanliness.I didn't eat at Finis for dinner because I was going out with friends but if the exceptional breakfast is anything to go by you won't be disappointed.
Beautiful with just a couple of flaws (Oak Room)
Room, grounds and communal areas were beautiful. I could've stared at the Willow tree swaying in the wind for hours :)Breakfast was sublime as well, we had already booked an evening meal elsewhere but have no doubt their dinner would be equally incredible. My only complaint is that in the Oak room, a terrible and loud noise can be heard I believe when another room is using a tap. I couldn't pinpoint which of course as I'm not familiar enough. Also (and these are personal) I thought the bed was too soft and the bath too small (shallow) but that's down to my own preferences.Would I stay again? Yes, though a different room I think.
Absolutely fantastic
What a superb place from the accommodating owner to the very warm welcome . Our evening meal was excellent. We would not hesitate to recommend this tranquil hotel.
Home from home
Staying here is like coming home the welcome the staff the food the rooms are beyond excellent whether it’s an overnight or using as a base to explore Scotland Cumbria or Northumberland you will not be disappointed we will be back
Superb accommodation
Accommodation, hospitality and evening meal were really superb. Breakfast however was a bit disappointing in comparison. We brought our breakfast booking forward to be closer to the other guest staying, however it tasted like it had been hanging around for a long time before it was served.
Excellent
Beautiful in every way. We even saw a kingfisher at the lake! Accommodation perfect. Comfortable and on ground floor perfect for my husband who has mobility issues. Food amazing and over generous portions(weight gain!) Will be back.
Fantastic
Great stay fantastic service and pleasant people
v quality
Wifi is rubbish and not much phone signal...apart from that very nice!
Another excellent overnight stay!
Willowbeck Lodge is a warm and welcoming overnight stop en route to and from London and the West Coast of Scotland.Comfortable rooms, spotlessly clean and an excellent kitchen.Friendly and helpful staff.
One of my favourite places
A warm welcome, the room was clean and cozy, food as always was amazing as was the service
Awesome food and nice staff
Lovely staff, Clean Room and very tasty food. Would recommend to anyone
peaceful stopoff
This is a really peaceful place in a suburb, great as a stop off, not far from the key roads and sites. The on site restaurant was really good.
Relaxing
Great hotel and very relaxing.Food was fantastic!Would definitely recommend.BR
Lovely Stay
We had an overnight stay at Willowbeck Lodge on our way down south. We arrived a little early and the staff were so kind and helpful while we waited for our room. The room was perfect for our stay and we had a first class evening meal in the restaurant. We will certainly be staying again on our way south. It is also so well located off the M6. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely stay while traveling on the M6.
Lovely property
We were very comfortable for our night here.Clean, comfortable room.Friendly staff.Fantastic breakfast.Excellent location for us (stopping on a road trip).
Relaxing
Saw the picture of the front and thought, that looks interesting. It proved to be everything I imagined, welcoming, comfortable and tasteful. The setting is amazing and the bedroom spacious, with a view too die for. Thank you for a great stay!
Very pleasant stay
The hotel was very pleasant setting and staff were friendly. The room was a bit small especially with the sloping ceiling which meant my husband frequently bumping his head. The menu was a bit limiting and would be difficult to find suitable choices if you stayed more than two nights.
Our stay at Willowbeck Lodge was like visiting a member of your family, very warm and welcoming.
Our stay at the Willowbeck Lodge was not a holiday break but for family reasons and Andrew and all the staff were aware of the circumstances for our visit to the area and they could not have been more welcoming, helpful and caring. We only had to mention something and they would sort it out or point us in the right direction. We could not have been looked after or made to feel like nothing was to much trouble. We would highly recommend Willowbeck asa place to stay and be looked after. We shall certainly be re-visiting for pleasure.
Relaxing
Great place to stay , staff and owner Andrew were exceptional ,polite and couldn’t do enough for us .food was yummy too
Excellent
very clean and comfortable
Excellent in all respects.
First class accommodation: great food: efficient staff: a delightful host. Just the right place to split a long journey( and only5 minutes from the M6. Highly recommended.
Beautiful, tranquil setting with excellent food
Stopped for anight to break a journey from Inverness to Northamptonshire. Willowbeck Lodge is set just off the M6 near Carlisle but feels miles away. The lodge is set in lovely peaceful grounds. Delightful restaurant with a diverse choice of food with an equally innovative and varied breakfast. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the staff could not have been more professional, pleasant and helpful. We would certainly use it again and highly recommend a stay
Beautiful hotel in an idyllic spot
We couldn’t fault a thing .Lovely staff , very good ambiance.Rooms were beautiful. Fabulous bed .Excellent quality all round.Would definitely recommend
Supreb
Lovely place, fantastic location, great staff
Absolutely brilliant!
We had a wonderful holiday basing ourselves in Carlisle which was a perfect base to go to so many places including the Lake District, Scotland and Northumberland. The hotel itself is exceptionally pretty with a beautiful garden and small lake with a variety of wildlife. We stayed in the lodge which was wonderful and had 2 beds, 2 baths, lounge and kitchen/diner. We were spoilt for space. It was very clean and warm. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and there was a large choice. The staff were fantastic particularly Jo and Andrew who looked after us well and made our holiday a perfect choice. Thank you x
A very special place
In a beautiful location, Willowbeck Lodge has been a highlight of our travels in the UK.Lovely room, comfortable bed and delicious dinner, and delightful staff - what more is needed?

Fantastic ro om and really enjoyable meal cooked to perfection.
Perfect Birthday Treat
This was our final stop of a two week holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the room (Willow) was beautiful, dinner was delicious and the staff were all so friendly. We hope to be back!
One night
Stayed one night on way home from Scotland. Everything excellent
Fabulous stay!
We stayed here for one night on our way to Scotland. Really comfortable beds, warm welcome and delicious food. We had an evening meal too and it was amazing!
A wonderful hidden gem just off the M6
So lucky to have come upon Willowbeck Lodge whilst looking for a place to stay on our way up the M6. We usually stay at Tebay, but after seeing the description and images of the hotel, alongside all of the amazing reviews left by previous guests, we really did not need anymore convincing. We were warmly welcomed by staff, ensured that we had anything we could possibly need. The hotel is just off the main road, but you’d think that it was in rural countryside the way it is nestled between trees and the most beautiful pond. Eating breakfast facing the pond and the sunshine glistening off the water and trees was truly magical and set us up well for the long journey ahead.Food was delicious too, and breakfast was a real highlight.I was travelling with my father, so we had two rooms booked, next door to each other. Perfectly sized, comfortable bed and en-suite bathrooms, just ideal really. We will not hesitate to go back!
Really lovely stay
We arrived very tired as been travelling for 10 hours ..The welcome was warm and friendly and put us at ease .The accommodation was just perfect huge comfy bed and lovely clean comfortable roomWe were too tired to eat that evening in the restaurant but the food looked amazing .The staff at breakfast were so lovely and friendly and welcoming..The food was absolutely deliciousSo I would like to thank everyone for a lovely end to our holidayThe view of the pond from our room was lovely and my fiancée loved the library. We will return …
Recent stay
Excellent customer service, beautiful location, superb food we will definitely be back Thank You
Overnight stop, celebrating wedding anniversary
Fabulous location, service and restaurant. Would highly recommend
Excellent
First class accommodation and food. Staff were fantastic
The Cedar Lodge was excellent , particularly in the circumstances of the Queen’s death. ( I.e.the TV and lounge.) The food was also very good although sometimes too much. I would have liked a change of menu.
All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly
We are thrilled that we have found Willowbeck and will definitely be back.
Everything about Willowbeck is wonderful. The location just off the M6, the large and impressive Hazel Room, the large and impressive bed, the beautiful grounds, the wonderful food in the restaurant, the delicious and extensive breakfast choices and ALL of the staff who were most welcoming and efficient.
Perfect Stopover
Found on the Internet by searching hotels near Carlisle as a stopover en route to Scotland. Attractive, spotless, kind attentive caring staff and owner on site and available. The modern room could not have been better. Best of all is the location 3 minutes from the M6 yet it feels in the countryside. The restaurant and menu could not be faulted but pricey. Not to be missed as a stopover.
Perfect spot to stop just off thr M6...
We had a great experience at Willowbeck Lodge (Sept 2022). The team were extremely helpful, and the amenities were great. The room (Eva's Cottage) was wonderful, clean, and perfect to spend a night after a long day of travelling. The breakfast was great and we will definitely return as this is the perfect spot to stop just off the M6.
Excellent and would stay again and again
Excellentaccommodation , comfortable and clean all in a beautiful setting.I arrived late and decided to have dinner there and had wonderful meal.A hidden gem!
Fabulous small hotel
Wonderful service and food.Willow room was large, very comfy enormous bed and huge bathroom. Up stairs (no lift) so beware. Lovely setting by pond. Able to charge EV overnight for £25. Highly recommended.
Excellent
What a find- hard to Fault-amazing food well done
Brilliant
Excellent food beautiful setting good service thank you to all the staff
excellent
thank you very much for the friendly welcome and feeding us notwithstanding the late hour of our arrival - the room was very comfortable and the breakfast first class - we will look forward to a return next year
Peaceful, rural hotel with restaurant, easy access to motorway
Wonderful staff, very clean room and bathroom, good décor, comfortable bed, on-site restaurant ( only restaurant food, no snacks/sandwiches). Charming view of willow trees and pond from window ( Oak room).
Very comfortable and peaceful with beautiful surroundings.
Room extremely clean and spacious with modern decor. A very large comfortable bed and no background noise allowed us to have a good night's sleep. Excellent ensuite especially the shower. Superb restaurant, staff most friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
Loved it ,
We loved everything about it. Easy access to Motorway, but, more importantly the location, the room, the staff, the meals and the surroundings were all top notch. Would happily recommendit.
Lovely overnight stopping place
We stayed at Willowbeck while travelling up to Scotland, to break our journey. This is a very comfortable and very well run, friendlyplace which made a delightful start to our holiday. Such a treat to get a proper hotel cooked breakfast, from a list of mouth watering choices including vegan, rather than the standard self service on offer at many establishments now. Just minutes from the M6 but quiet and attractive surroundings. Highly recommend!
Great location for Hadrian's wall
What a little gem of a place, just outside Carlisle!Very close to the M6, if like us, you were breaking a journey south, and also a great place for visiting Hadrian's wall.Spotlessly clean, run by a fantastic group of staff - nothing too trivial and everything done with a smile.
Wonderful & Welcoming!
Absolutely gorgeous place, we only stayed one night but would have no hesitation in recommending. Really lovely welcome from the staff, our room whilst compact and bijou was perfect for a one night stay. The menu had a great selection and was absolutely delicious.I’m sure we would definitely look to stay again if our journeys take us this way.
Excellent
Lovely top-notch environment, food and staff (Jo and Clarissa). A shame that the room we had booked (Ash) many weeks before was not available.
A little piece of heaven!
From the gorgeous location to the fabulously friendly staff we were genuinely delighted staying at Treetops. The room was beautifully equipped & spotlessly clean, albeit a touch small. The view of the lake & delightful gardens was super. The welcome was warm, and the evening meal at their top class bistro (Fini’s) was top class. We had the seafood platter - it was fresh, cooked to perfection, served beautifully & made our evening. The breakfast was again beautifully served with a huge range of choices, all served fresh. And to cap it all the team who looked after us we’re all brilliant, and we’re experienced hospitality professionals. A rare blend! We would not hesitate to either stay again or recommend Treetops to others.
Enjoyable Evening
Restful stopover in a nice location.Bijou pretty room.Breakfast, lunch and were excellent.
Great Stay
Lovely small hotel with great rooms, excellent service and wonderful food!! Highly recommend
Best stay of the week!
Stayed at Willowbeck Lodge on our homeward journey from a week long tour of the Cairngorms, Loch Ness & Loch Lomond. We can honestly say this was the best overnight stay of the week. The room was immaculate & the food served in the restaurant in the evening & at breakfast was second to none!Staff were brilliant & nothing was too much trouble. Willowbeck Lodge is a must if you are planning on stopping in the area.
Carlisle Classic
A modern property with excellent amenities, a fine restaurant and a quiet location not too far from the motorway. The staff were very friendly and obliging, making us feel very welcome during a smooth check-in.The only small negative was a tiny bathroom (a design issue!)
brilliant
Half way stop that's worth making a destination... wonderful grounds.. .great food.. .warm welcome.... comfortable rooms.. What more do you need??
Couldn't recommend more
Willowbeck Lodge was a wonderful experience. The room (Hazel Room) was spotlessly clean and spacious, the attention to detail was evident and it was just a beautiful room. The staff were so attentive and welcoming and there is a real family feel to the hotel. The food was excellent - the best food we had on the trip served in beautiful peaceful surroundings. Couldn't ask for more and real valuefor money.
Fabulous setting great welcome
Lovely welcome from staff. Great restaurant and superb breakfast. Super location with restaurant looking over small lake complete with kingfisher. Tesla charging available
Excellent
This is a delightful lodge in a super setting. The facilities, service, food and comfort are all to a high standard. In addition, every member of staff that I met was so welcoming, proficient and naturally friendly. A wonderful place to stay.
Excellent
From booking direct with Willowbeck Lodge to saying our goodbyes everything was superb .Accommodation was first class…..room was spotless.Breakfast and dinner…..great selection on both occasions.Last but by all means not least :The Staff ….couldn’t do enough to please…..and always with a smile. We will be back.
What a gem
We stopped for the night on the way to Scotland, and if in the area again this will be our go to place. The welcome, service, food quality and facility were excellent.
Excellent stay
Great location near the M6, beautiful room, menu was very good as were all of the team, they couldn’thave been more helpful. Thank you
Fantastic
What a stunning location, I have been coming to the area on business for years and did not know it existed. Very friendly and professional staff complimented the whole experience. Hopefully I will be back soon.
Very pleasant stay
The staff were very good. The accommodation and food was excellent especially the scrumptious breakfast.
A hidden gem
We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at WillowbeckLodge. Our room was modern and spacious and we had a lovely terrace overlooking the lake. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and a varied menu for breakfast was thoroughly enjoyed on both mornings. We would definitely recommend Willowbeck
Relaxing
Relaxing stay with friendly staff and good accommodation. Will definitely stay here again
Great stay
Room is clean, staff efficient and friendly, food first class and portions are generous, location excellent for going to Scotland or vice Versa, environment quiet, garden and pond peaceful
Superb stay
We had a wonderful stay at Willowbeck Lodge. The room was modern and beautiful and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We would absolutely want to go back and visit again.
Great place, staff are professional and friendly
An excellent hotel situated just off the M6. Very peaceful and the views from the restaurant are outstanding. The whole place is very clean and the bed is the most comfortable bed I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. Great food and very friendly service from all the staff.
Very good stay
Lovely room, spacious, nice decor, well equipped.Noise from shower in Beech room next door woke us.Could do with DVD instructions - no clue which channel.Average sausages (chipolatas) prefer cumberland.
Stunning retreat
We’ve never felt so welcome or so looked after! The most beautiful home in such a peaceful setting. We booked late so only Beech Room available for 2 nights but even a standard double felt 5*. So clean and beautifully decorated, looking over the lake. Little details thought of. The staff were so welcoming from the moment we arrived, that personal touch, so kind and caring, nothing too much trouble. We can’t thank them enough for looking after us. The icing on the cake was Finis restaurant, breakfast was out of this world, so much choice and all fresh local produce, you could taste it in every mouthful. Dinner was exceptional, everything catered for, dairy free no problem, having spread on my toast away from home felt such a luxury. Please tell the lovely lady, we stopped at Pioneer on the way home for strawberries, tomatoes and lots more!!!!We came for respite and left glowing, feeling well and truly cared for and rested. Thank you so much
Wonderful
Excellent accommodation (Eva suite) if you have two young children in tow. Lovely staff and delicious breakfast. Wished we were staying longer!
Delightful
So pleased to have found Willowbeck to stay aton our journey back to London from Scotland. Everybody were most helpful and if as said a Bed and Breakfast was certainly of a Boutique nature. Just a shame the weather the day we arrived was not good enough to sit out by the lake in the gardens and enjoy the leafy surroundings.
Attractive
The hotel faces an attractive pond and many trees. Our room was quite small and the en suite bathroom was the smallest I've ever seen, but the bath towels were the biggest I've ever seen.It was surprising - and very pleasing - that face flannels/washcloths were provided. We chose to have our evening meal there and it was top class both in quality and service. The breakfast was very substantial and good quality. The hotel is off the main road and hence traffic noise was never a problem.
Great
We were well looked after and the food was deliciousx
Location just outside Carlisle - quiet place no road noise!
Excellent location beautiful setting with lake, food super staff excellent service
Really lovely place to stay
We stayed for one night on a road trip on our way north. We were very pleased with the hotel. We had a lovely welcome. Our room was spacious and clean. The food was excellent. Husband had huge prawns, which were delicious. My chicken was lovely and moist. Breakfast was also really good. We have stayed in 3 places so far on our trip and Willowbeck is by far the best.
An oasis near a busy motorway
A delightful restful overnight stay with an enjoyable dinner and breakfast. Will be back.
Friendly welcome after long journey
Having driven some 350 miles it was so good to relax in this wonderful setting with a cool drink on the terrace. The restaurant meal was top quality as was the superb breakfast the next day. We had the Willow room with a Juliet balcony overlooking the lake. A wonderful start to our holiday and a much needed break on our journey to Edinburgh.
Well Done
The owner and staff were very attentive. The food was to our liking, particularly the beautifully presented breakfasts. The service was excellent. The rooms were very comfortable.
Great stay
Great food, great room; great staff
Excellent food
Great location just off M6 and A69. All staff lovely and friendly, special mention for Jo. Food excellent, nice dining room with outside terrace in a lovely setting. Room amenities all good only disappointment was we booked Hazel garden room with private terrace. Unfortunately the room looks out onto car park and all guests coming and going walk past room/ terrace and as no blinds at full size patio doors and windows had to keep curtains closed. Would still book hotel again if in the area.
Amazing place to stay
What a fantastic place to stay, idyllic location, very spacious and well equipped rooms. Delicious breakfast and very friendly staff.Andrew and the team make you feel so welcome, looking forward to another visit.
Fantastic stay
A very lovely hotel with fresh rooms with pitoresque wiev from window over green lawns and a small pond. The staff was very service minded and friendly and the breakfast and food was top notch. Close location to Carlisle and short drive to Hadrians wall
Romantic and peaceful
We stayed in the Eva Room which is beautifully decorated throughout with an amazing bathroom . Nothing was too much for the staff/hosts they were lovely and kind and the food was amazing and cooked to perfection . The location is so peaceful and with our own private terrace it made it extra special. We will definitely be looking to stay here again in the future. The only thing that could have made it any better was if there was a hot tub on the private terrace.
Anniversary stay
We stayed there 6th August 2022 for our anniversary what a lovely hotel and the staff were great very friendly and couldn't do enough for you.Food was beautiful it was very tasty. The room was clean and tidy and it also had tea coffee and bottles of water etc for you plenty of room for your clothes also it had a hair dryer which I think is goodBathroom had a walk in shower soap shampoo also provided.Very lovely place we will be going again
Luxury chill hotel
Beautiful location, ideal place to chill with a drop of fizz and good company. Comfortable bedroom with a super shower.Staff are all welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food is excellent and a good choice of drinks.
Simply stunning
The hotel feels more like a cosy home. We stayed in two rooms as we had an extended stay and both were stunning. The food was absolutely perfect, the service second to none. The rooms and grounds were immaculate . Everything was just so on point. It's definitely a perfect peaceful place to come back to after sightseeing with links so close the motorway even though you can't hear it at all!We will definitely be back. We loved this place and are thankful for the help itgave us making some new memories for us
Excellent place to stay
My mum and myself had a lovely stay here for three nights. Beautiful setting, very helpful and friendly staff who made you feel as if you were their only guests. Great location for touring this area which is steeped in history. Would definitely recommend.
excellent
the staff wear amazing nothing was a problem the hotel and food wear 10 out of 10 we will definitely be going back
5* All the Way
An idyllic retreat in the leafy village of Scotby, Cumbria. From arrival to departure our stay was splendid. The staff were so nice and really attentive.Special note , Andrew, the owner went out of his way to meet and chat to us and ensure our stay was memorable.
Excellent
We stayed for one night on our way to Scotland in July. Exceptionally clean. Beautiful setting. Lovely staff. Very good food. Couldn’t fault the place really.
Beautifully and peaceful
The lodge is a lovely calm peaceful little retreat. The rooms are beautifully set out, the food is wonderful, staff very friendly and helpful, the place is sparkling clean and airy. All wrapped up in a delightful setting, of a little lake, weeping willows and listeria adorning the outside. We sat after a long drive on the m6 with the balcony doors open listening to the distant sound of a cricket match.
Absolutely superb
We couldn’t have asked for anymoreHotel spotless and staff very knowledgeable, polite caringKeep up the good work folks
Perfect relaxing overnight stop
Really conveniently located, the hotel is an oasis of calm in beautifully manicured grounds. We stayed in the Willow room with large windows which overlook the garden, and has a huge bathroom and fabulously comfortable king size bed.We enjoyed a bottle of wine in the garden in the evening and wish we had taken advantage of the restaurant as breakfast was fab. We'd love to stop again.
Fantastic
Fantastic, Location, Room, Staff (Jo, Steph, Clarrisa) 5 ***** service. excellent, we will be back.
Very convenient location and comfortable rooms
Just minutes from the M6 this was a great stop-off option. The rooms were great and the service was friendly and attentive.
An excellent stay
We booked this very last minute online and were really pleased. The room was exactly as described online and the breakfast was first class. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
Mrs
It was very enjoyable stay. Excellent room. Great food. Marvellous. Staff.Would. Stay again.
Beautiful boutique hotel
Thank you to Willowbank team for a wonderfully relaxing stay. Beautiful rooms overlooking a lake and an amazing breakfast on Sunday morning. Highly recommended!! Lynne
Gorgeous
Had a wonderful couple of days/nights at Willowbeck. The lodge was stunning, clean, tidy and perfect for our trip.Jo - The front of house manager was excellent, extremely helpful, nothing too much trouble.Thank you to Andrew and his team for a great time away.
Very good comfortable and nice food
Lovely stay will recommend
Excellant
Prefect clean modern and everything is there for the traveller.Beautiful setting even mother and ducklings on the pond.
Excellent venue
Andrew was very courteous and efficient the room was spotless and the evening dinner superb.
Excellent Stay
Visited on our way to a week in a Scotland.First impression was that we had arrived at someone’s house - however we soon established otherwise.Room was excellent. Staff all very warm and friendly and the food at both dinner and breakfast was absolutely excellent. We liked it so much we changed our plans to visit again on our way home!
Fantastic
Depends on your point of view and what you require from an overnight stopover. I’m used to the standard homogenised hotel rooms with bed, tv, WiFi, shower, tea making facilities and same art on the wall no matter if your in London or Liverpool. Which serves a purpose very well. With Willowbeck it was none of these and more. Yes the rooms were a bit smaller but other than that everything was an improvement. The evening drinks by the pond, friendly chats with the staff, great evening food, even better breakfast (the only problem being what to have), artwork on walls by local artists which is for sale (there’s some really talented artists living near this hotel) very quiet and only a short distance from the motorway. On a business trip it would be a proper break from work and on our family holiday a brilliant way to split the journey up to Scotland with a visit to Hadrian’s Wall only 20mins away. I really recommend Willowbeck, but don’t expect generic. You’ll get proper personal private hotel service. My 11yr old son loved it - he gave it a 5 star rating! Praise indeed.
Fab place
Stunning place tucked away in a beautiful little location.Andrew & the staff very friendly & accommodating. We were in the Willow & plan to come back again next year. Food was great.
Beautiful hotel
We stayed here for a night on our journey from Scotland to the Midlands and what a lovely place to stop off at. The room was beautifully decorated and spotless, the hotel and grounds were pristine and the welcome was very friendly. Breakfast was also delicious - all in all we wished we had booked for longer and hope to return the next time we pass that way - the location is very peaceful but still convenient for the motorway. Thanks for a great stay!
Great stay
Lovely place with friendly staff. The evening meal in the restaurant was particularly good and would definitely recommend.
Delightful place to stay
We stayed one night and would definitely stay again when we we are in that area. The staff were extremely warm and welcoming. The dinner was delicious and a work of art as was the breakfast.Great choice and much care taken with presentation
Great stop
Stayed here for 2 nights and was very comfortable. Superb breakfasts and will stay again.
Brilliant
Friendly welcome, attention to detail, clean comfortable rooms. Great dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend.
A Peaceful Oasis!
Just returned from a wonderful stay at the Willowbeck LodgeI would most definitely highly recommend this hotel without doubt! The rooms are excellent and my brother and I had dinner in Fini’s restaurant: the menu had a very good and varied choice with fabulous service and friendly attitudeThis is a most welcoming establishment in a peaceful and relaxing settingBoth my brother and I have said we will definitely return for a weekend away with our spouses
A fantastic experience
The lodge is absolutely beautiful. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast and stated in a wonderful room that our little girl loved. Andrew and his team were brilliant. We will be back.
Superb find
Ideally situated close to the M6 junction for our stopover when traveling up to Scotland. Warm hospitality and excellent food. We’ll definitely book in again.
Great stay 👍👍
We stayed at Willowbeck Lodge for three nights in early May while we were visiting relatives in the area and starting the Hadrian’s Wall walk west to east. We had a really good stay and an excellent start to our adventure. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The food was exceptional. Overall, our stay was excellent and we have already recommended to others who might be in the area. We would certainly stay again if we are back in Cumbria👍👍. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so comfortable and welcoming.
A Heavenly Haven
So near the M6, and the SatNav found it very quickly, a haven after so much hard driving.A lovely house, with great bedrooms (really comfortable bed) and a spacious dining room, which looks out over the aforementioned willows and beck!We were made to feel very welcome, and we enjoyed the best meal we had had for a whole week.If en route to or from Scotland, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Exactly what was needed
Comfortable bed, great breakfast, good atmosphere. It ticked all the boxes.
Definitely 5 star!
Fabulous hotel - amazing staff - superb breakfast
Superb few days
Excellent food, Staff were so good and helpful.Fully recommend Willowbeck
Lovely small hotel
A lovely small hotel in a great setting. Comfortable room, nicely prepared food, good breakfast and helpful, friendly staff.
Nice little find
Lovely find. Very quiet considering it was only about a mile or two away from M6. So tranquil. Was made very welcome by the staff. They are an asset to the hotel. My only negative comment would be the chef. A couple of times I felt the level of detail could have been looked at eg quite a lot of water on the plate when poached eggs came out for breakfast, so spring onions on dinner plate had not been prepared correctly...just little things, but I cant fault the hotel. Very nicely furnished. everything was very ;nicely' done. Thank you for a lovely stay
Excellent room ,staff very friendly and welcoming
Very comfortable bed and lovely room with views over lake .peaceful location but close to main routes as travelling back from a holiday in skyeBreakfast lovely tooAlso had dinner here which again was great
Lovely setting
Willowbeck Lodge is in a lovely quiet setting. We booked for two nights in order to access Hadrian’s Wall.Breakfast was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room, the Maple Room, was really too small to accommodate two adults and in the bathroom, the toilet is so close to the sink that you can’t sit on it straight.I would avoid booking that room again but I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Hotel.
An oasis of luxury
The rooms were comfortable and quiet. It was hard to believe that a quiet respite could be found minutes from the highway. The food was amazing, and the hospitality doubly so. Everyone in our group wanted to cancel our next plans and stay longer, but we were booked and paid. Otherwise we may not have made it to Scotland at all.
LOVE THIS PLACE
This is the second time we have stayed here and it never disappoints. Beds are comfortable, food is great and the location is exceptional. Peace and quiet and lovely scenery await. Nearly didn’t write a review as feels like it’s our little secret!
Fantastic hotel
We stayed here for three nights over our anniversary. The staff made our stay really special and went out of there way to help us celebrate. The hotel was comfortable and well furnished. I loved the paintings and photos around the rooms. The food in the restaurant was very good. We ate here twice. The room was comfort and spacious and the hotel was setback from the quiet road so you felt quite secluded
Excellent
Great room in lovely surroundings with friendly staff, handy for M6.
Stylish, individual hotel
Eva's room was spacious, modern and comfortable, with a lovely ensuite. The room had it's own patio area and overlooked the pretty pool at the front of the hotel.Food was delicious and all staff we met were chatty and friendly.Would definitely recommend this great little hotel to others
Comfortable and convenient
Thanks for a lovely short stay, we had a very attractive setting , comfortable room and a healthy breakfast
Perfect stopover
Lovely welcome on arrival, then looked after really well at dinner. Lots of chat about wildlife around the pond with the waitress. Enjoyed the food.Really nice shower
Beautiful
On arrival I was greeted with a beautiful view of the house and grounds. The hotel has been modernised and is in very good condition. The hotel restaurant and rooms are designed to look out on to the grounds and small lake and this makes everything a very peaceful. The room was small but again, very nicely presented with a large walk in shower. The evening meal was delish and again beautifully presented. Trying to be balanced the Beech room does have chalet bungalow roof so for someone my height (6’4”) I did come close to banging my head. Overall though I’d say it was worth the risk.
Fantastic stay.
An absolutely fantastic stay despite it only being overnight. Beautiful setting, lovely welcome, very attentive to guests needs. Would recommend to anyone. We would definitely come back.
Smashing Stay
Just needed a one-night stop off on the way to Glasgow airport; Willowbeck exceeded all expectations! A beautiful setting, exemplary accommodation and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Fini’s Restaurant served up a great burger too!
Lovely setting with great hosts!
We had a lovely time at Willowbeck. The food in the restaurant was excellent and our room was spacious and cozy, we also had a lovely view of the pond. Our host, Andrew along with his staff were so helpful, they gave us lots ofadvice about the local sights. We love Cumbria and its people, one day we hope to go back.Visitors from Vancouver, Canada.
Excellent
We stayed for a night at Willowbeck Lodge. It was very pleasant and comfortable.Andrew went to great lengths to make us feel at home in all aspects. We will certainly visit again,
Fantastic
Great hotel, fab services and lovely food , breakfast is really good .
Great Place
We stayed for one night when travelling from London to Highlands in Scotland. We appreciate quality of room (and I mean a high quality!), wonderful breakfast and above all, the friendlinessstaff... thank you all!
Fabulous stay
All perfect.Peaceful, just the sound of birds, welcoming and fun staff, fabulous food.Room was beautiful, could have sat looking out the window for ages.
Amazing stay
We had a fantastic stay. The Willow room was breathtaking with its gorgeous view over the lake.We dined in the restaurant which was equally as good.Best meal we've had for a long time. Customer service is top notch too.
Beautiful room in a lodge with a lovely setting.
Myself and my partner had a lovely 2 night stay in Willowbeck Lodge. The Lodge is set in lovely tranquil surroundings overlooking landscaped grounds and a pond.I can thoroughly recommend the food and a lovely member of staff Jo made our stay extra special.
Lovely lodge
We stayed here on our way up to Scotland and also on the return. What a little gem of a place. A very warm welcome and shown to our beautiful room with a Juliet balcony. Beautiful dining area with double height pitch roof with exposed beans giving wonderful views over the lake.Had dinner and breakfast booked here on both stays which was excellent. A faultless stay. Would thoroughly recommend.
Very comfortable
The room was decorated very nicely and the bed was super comfortable. We had a meal in the restaurant the night we stayed which was delicious. We were only there for 1 night but would definitely stay again.
Well needed Peaceful break
We stayed in Eva, which was excellent. A beautiful modern design room with waterfall wet room. We had a superb dinner in Finni’s and excellent breakfast in the morning. I can highly recommend our stay here, and will return in the autumn for another short break.
Perfect!
Unfortunately it was just a one night stay travelling back from Scotland, a longer stay would have been nice. The room and service were both first class, and would certainly stay again. Also had an evening meal in the restaurant which did not disappoint either.
Hotel in lovely setting and close to M6
Comfortable hotel in beautiful setting.Easy access from M6. Good breakfast and food excellent in the Fini's Restaurant for evening meal.
High Standard.
We stayed going on our journey and again on the way back. First in the Hazel Room and then Eva’s. The rooms are beautifully designed, large and so so clean. We would have liked a bit more privacy on the windows without closing the curtains when getting ready, the view was stunning. Breakfasts were lovely and spoilt for choice, as was dinner but thin chips wouldn’t have been our choice. Friendly enthusiastic staff.Altogether lovely experience.
A comfortable and peaceful retreat.
Tucked away in secluded grounds the hotel staff are welcoming and attentive.Excellent food at dinner and breakfast and comfortable rooms top off what is a very relaxing place to stay.
Lovely
Particularly appreciated helpfulness re potential delayed arrival.
Very nice hotel
The hotel is very convenient for the M6, which is a major plus for those of us travelling a long distance. The room was very comfortable, very clean and very well appointed. Dinner was superb. My only negative is that I did not appreciate being asked to pay for my dinner that night before retiring. I am not convinced that I want to stay in a hotel where the management think I might be the type of person to skip out without paying.
High level, comfortable Hotel with a very personal touch.
Top-location, especially for tourists on their way to or from Scotland.Very personal reception of the owner. Top-quality kitchen for dinner and breakfast with a big selection of alternatives. Comfortable and quiet rooms with personal touch.Highly recommended!!!
These guys just get it right!
What can I say apart from the fact that these guys just get it right! Beautiful rooms, wonderful food, fantastic staff and outstanding location. You could not ask for more.
Wonderful Place
I had a relaxing one night stay at the Willowbeck Lodge. The room was beautiful and as pictured. The meal at the restaurant was amazing. I wished I could have stayed longer.
Pleasant interlude
Very enjoyable stay, pleasant, courteous staff, good food and the setting although still a work in progress is tranquil.
Excellent Stay again
We have stayed here before and this time we were in the Hazel room. It was very comfortable with a very large comfy bed. A couple of initial minor problems were speedily addressed, which was good. I am a very light sleeper and found the buzzing noise that emanated from the cupboard to the right of the bed most off putting and found sleep impossible until it switched itself off at 12.45am. Andrew and all the staff were efficient and friendly and the breakfasts were 1st rate other than the small peculiar sausages!! We also attended a family post wedding lunch on Sunday, 15th May, which was excellent and well organised despite a busy clientele as well. The location, close to my sister's house, and the beautiful surroundings added to the appeal of the Lodge.
Perfect in every way.
Willowbeck Lodge is a wonderful place in all repects. There was a warm welcome from Jo and Andrew. The room, overlooking the lake, was wonderful and extremely spacious. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the view both beautiful and tranquil. The bedside lights were such that you could actually read your book! The food choices were refreshingly different, varied and all freshly cooked. Everything was delicious. What a find. We will definitely go back there.
Lovely place
Stayed overnight on our trip down from Scotland and had a great night’s sleep and fabulous breakfast completely recharging ourselves for a drive down to the SouthwestCompletely recommend it
Wionderful Findjust what a needed after a
I was delighted to be able to make a last-minute booking at Willowbeck Lodge on my way south on May 17th. A great and convenient location, a warm welcome, excellent food (both dinner and breakfast)and a very comfortable and well furnished room (Beech) was just what i needed after a long travel day. The souis0vide chicken was the best I have tasted for a long time and the breakfast was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. Definitely on my list of places to stay next time I find myself in the area.
Excellent Stay !
We stayed overnight whilst travelling to Scotland. Our room was lovely, and the food was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We topped up our EV charge for a couple of hours which was handy. The location is very convenient if you are travelling on the M6/M74. We will definitely stay again the next time we are passing
An excellent overnight stay
Willowbeck Lodge offered a very high quality of accommodation and dining. We really enjoyed our stay and will return if and when we are ever trying to stay in the area.
A true hidden gem
Our room, Eva, was beautifully appointed with a lovely view across the pond. There was also a private outdoor seating area. The restaurant was absolutely fantastic.A comfortable room with a view. There was a lovely choice of freshly cooked, seasonal food.My wife and I are both vegetarians. We felt well catered for.The choice of wine and spirits etc was extremely good.As an expat Scotsman I felt obliged to sample the lovely malts. The grounds are a work in progress which can affect parking at busy times.I believe plans are afoot to rectify this. The staff are truly wonderful. They're chatty but not intrusive. They're happy to have a laugh with the guests.Service throughout the establishment is exemplary.Prices overall are quite reasonable given the very high standard of accommodation, food and service. We would return to Willowbeck Lodge without hesitation.Thank you guys.
Taking a break
Excellent Excellent Excellent
Lucky find
Obviously either recently done up or recently converted the rooms are at a very high standard whilst as in many hotels which call themselves boutique small. The service was friendly , food high standard and setting delightful. What’s not to love. Comes at a price though.
Lovely setting, bright, open and something different!
A real treasure of a find so close to the motorway but feels a hundred miles away. Beautiful setting of a woodland modern house, our ground floor room blended all the modern elements (underfloor heating, glorious shower, great bed and linens)with a feeling of privacy and tranquility. A friendly team takes care of you, and the relaxed restaurant was charming - and the food excellent. I almost want to keep this place a secret..
Very nice place to be
Very nice place to be. Extremely friendly and warm people, very calm house and good food.We are not often in the UK but this house will be ever in our planning for a trip to Scotland or everywhere.
Excellent
A lovely setting, room I had was spacious and very clean. Excellent shower and soft towels. Staff I met particularly in the evening were excellent, very helpful and efficient....Will definitely be back.
very good
Friendly staffNice clean roomsLovely breakfastRelaxing setting
Relaxing overnight stay
We appreciated the warm welcome on arrival which set the tone for a very pleasant first time at this boutique hotel. Excellent food too! We had Eva’s room, ground floor facing the lake with our own table and chairs on private patio outside. No complaints, will come again.
Pleasant stay
I had a late check in which was accommodated and met by friendly staff, very comfortable stay and had a great breakfast in the morning.
Great Place
I really like this place. I have stayed a few times but my last stay was hindered by noisy guests in the room above who had absolutely no care about others. The noise was bad and kept me awake into the small hours. I had not sleep at all due to the interruption and lack of calm. Willowbeck, maybe ask guests to show respect with regards noise. I appreciate insulation is a different story and hard to achieve. My other stays didn't have this issue and were just great. I still highly recommend this place.
Comfortable friendly stay
This is a great place to stay, very cosy in a great setting. All staff were friendly and the breakfast was very tasty.
Excellent Accomodation and Restaurant
I stayed here on business travel and I was very happy with Willowbeck Lodge's accommodation and restaurant. I stay in many hotels around the UK and I would happily recommend this one.
Absolutely Fabulous
The owner Andrew couldn't have been more helpful - likewise the staff who we dealt with, Jo and Kashka (sorry if wrong spelling) We had Cedar lodge which was beautifully kept and very very comfortable. The breakfasts too were amazing as was our wedding dinner. The grounds are super too and will look amazing when finished. Thank you so much shame we couldn't stay longer. Best wishes Annie & Sarah, Pamela & Alan
Great stop over
Used as a stop over on route to Scotland. The hotel is very “smart casual”friendly and comfortable.. it’s clean.Only down side is the two bedrooms we booked were very small.Overall I would use it again for sure.
Great
We had a wonderful stay in the on site lodge. Accommodation was fantastic and the food and attentive staff were wonderful. Cannot recommend too highly.
Superb stay in every way
Many thanks for the excellent quality of service at Willowbeck Lodge. Our room, the Willow Room, was beautifully clean and well appointed and very spacious. The food at breakfast and dinner on both days was delicious and very well served. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Great value for money and we will recommend Willowbeck Lodge to our friends and family. Thanks again, Richard and Janet
Fabulous Friday
We have just enjoyed our first visit to Willowbeck Lodge and look forward to many more. A very warm welcome awaited, which together with excellent food and a beautiful room made for a fantastic Friday evening with friends.
Great place to stay in Carlisle
We stayed in a family suite and is highly recommended for a family with kids. The staff and the landlord was very nice and helpful and the food in the main restaurant was amazing. They have a very nice breakfast as well.
Perfect short break
My stay was in every respect absolutely brilliant
Wonderful stay
Fantastic welcome, lovely meal at the restaurant and great breakfast. There was a bit of noise from the kitchen in the Hazel room, but we were up anyway so wasn’t an issue. Beautiful room and bed was super comfy. Fantastic stay overall, so close for graduation at Carlisle cathedral but this is now in the memory bank for if we need to stay a night away. Would definitely return, thank you so much
Superb
We stayed two nights at Willowbeck Lodge on our way to and from the Isle of Skye. Our room for a one night stay was perfectly adequate - if staying longer we would have chosen a slightly larger room. Our evening meals and breakfasts were excellent. All the staff we met were very friendly and sociable and made us feel at home. We would not hesitate to recommend Willowbeck Lodge to family and friends. The availability of an electric car charging point was a real bonus.Thank you all very much for a wonderful stay.
Very enjoyable and meal and breakfast at Finnies delicious
As in the past found all to be well organized, spotless and welcoming.Look forward to seeing the new pond though!
Short but sweet
We stayed just one night on a weekend away in the lakes. We had the Hazel room which was lovely. The room was well decorated and the bed was very very comfy (good for our tired legs after a long hike). The bathroom was also dead trendy and modern which was great. The staff couldn't have been more friendly either. Our only grip with the room is the curtains didn't really cover the windows fully and if not having a totally dark room is an issue you might find you wake a little earlier than you'd hoped. Small issue in an otherwise flawless stay. We also ate in the resturant which was delicious and a really lovely setting. Both had the steaks and choclate fondant desert. Although in the pricier side the food was delicious and totally warranted the higher end resturant price as it was a higher end resturant feel and quality! The breakfast was equally as delicious. Great stuff!
Excellent
Although our room was on the small size it was beautifully presented and served our purpose well for one night. Dinner was superb as was breakfast. Hotel is in a good location with lovely garden views and close to the motorway for onward travel.
Willow beck lodge
Most enjoyable stay staff very friendly room perfect food first class would recomend to any one
Great Hotel
Very easy to find off the M6. Great value. Clean comfortable and friendly staff. Excellent food
Very good.
Comfortable, if a little small, room. Very clean and well ordered. Dinner was exceptional as was breakfast. Staff very pleasant and helpful, especially Clarissa. Only downside was not being pre-warned about the work going on in the pond area. Otherwise very nice stay.
Response
Thanks for your kind review Linda.Apologies again for any inconvenience with the pond.We have informed guests on our website that work is being undertaken outside. Following your comments I have increased the font size and brought the statement to a more prominent position on the home page. Thanks Andrew
What a Beautiful Place
What a great pleace to stay, tucked away just on the edge of the village, the drive takes you towards the building which has a lake on the right hand side right in front. The room we stayed in had a terrace looking over to the lake.Whilst we were there lanscaping was getting done, and I am sure when finished will look fantastic.Hope to visit again in the future to see the place done up.
Superb
The room's very clean. Very well maintained. The shower was fabulous. Our kids had the double bunk bed room. They said they slept extremely well. Our bed was very comfortable. The hosts were very well coming. The restaurant area looked very good. Kind of regret that we didn't stop for a meal. We went to local curry house instead which was very good. Due to the recent storms they had to have a lot of trees down and are doing major work trying to get the pond back up to a nice place to be. We will be returning.
Excellent
My second overnight here, perfect to break a journey from London to West Coast of Scotland.A warm and friendly greeting, comfortable room, excellent supper in the restaurant. A very good selection of choices for breakfast. I can recommend the mushrooms on toast!
Lovely break on way from the Hebrides
We stayed at Willowbeck on 2 separate weekends breaking our journey. We were able to entertain some guests during our stay and like ourselves they all enjoyed the hospitality. The staff were most welcoming and our meals were extremely enjoyable. Coupled with the superb food our rooms were exceptionally clean and roomy and provided everything one would expect from a quality hotel. We also enjoyed the welcoming roaring fire in the main area which complemented a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Staff were professional, polite and very friendly. return aagain soon. Many thanks.. John Graham
Wonderful stay
Everything about Willowbeck Lodge is outstanding - staff are friendly and attentive; accommodation first rate and food very good. We stayed in the Cedar Lodge and everything about it was excellent with Scandi furniture and Ercol sofas and including a log-burner. An excellent and relaxing two night stay.
Lovely overnight stay
Eva's cottage was very comfortable, well designed, and spacious. The girls loved the annex room with the bunk bed.Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was very good quality, tasty and portion sizes were just right. We had a lovely overnight stay and would consider coming back. Thank you.
Very good
Lovely room and hotel.Good food and helpful service. It was quiet yet not far off the main road and pets were not allowed which suits us just fine. Landscaping work underway in the pond at the front but we knew about that in advance and it didn't cause a problem - it will look wonderful when finished.
Brilliant
Lovely place to stay.Comfortable roomExcellent evening meals and breakfastHighly recommendableJo was an excellent hostess and very knowledgeable about the local area
Excellent
Excellent all round. Friendly, professional, great room and good breakfast.
One night stay
Room was small but beautifully appointed. Shower room excellent.Dinnerand breakfast. Goodchoice of dishes. Well cooked and well served. Very pleasant staff.Would certainly recommend.
Very relaxing!
A super modern building in a beautiful quiet spot close to the M6 and the Scottish border, so a very handy place to break the journey. The room was lovely; cosy and well equipped, with lovely bedding.(Why not put 2 single divets on a king size bed like they do on the continent?) I would have liked more choice on the menu for the evening meal (am I faddy?), but otherwise the food was excellent, and I especially enjoyed the Craster kipper for breakfast.
Fantastic and Amazing!
As a gift for our son and his wife they have expressed how truly amazing their experience was, from first arriving, to the room, the setting and the incredible food, compliments to the chef! Many thanks to the team for making this such an enjoyable experience for our family.
A hidden gem
Taken for dinner by a friend I moved hotels to stay. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Dining area is a joy and the food top notch. I saw all rooms. Mine was cosy with a super comfy bed but larger rooms are fabulous so if I were going with my wife that's where I would be. Breakfast was excellent and it defeated me! I encourage people to support this independent boutique hotel. I shall certainly return.
Comfy
Hi thanks for a relaxing and comfortable night at the Willowbeck the Hazel room was amazing and loved the fact Netflix was on so we could have a binge watch a couple of movies because as a couple we don't get alot of time together as she is at uni down south so it was nice to chill out and enjoy our time I would of liked to of been able to order food into the room as she had been craving a takeaway but found having to go out into Carlisle took up alot of our night up which was a shame, also found we had to put one of the chairs again the wall to push the curtains back as I found depending where abouts on the bed you were you could see through the window and wasn't very private, the breakfast was unreal and one of the best we've had as we often stay in different hotels for nights away when she's up for a few days so well done, one more little thing that is abit off putting is the early check out and not being able to request a later one even at a small fee which we're happy to do alot of places we stay have 12.00 checkouts which is ideal as we didn't need to be in Carlisle until 12 so had alot of time to put in,Thanks very muchT Telfer.
Good- room for improvement
The hotel is advertised as 5* boutique (with the price tag) which automatically leaves you with super high expectations. The room was lovely but a few things are lacking to make this hotel 5* star;Room: lovely big room but no mini fridge for fresh milk, no full length mirror only a mirror to see your face, towel rail hanging off the wall and pencils marks in the shower which leaves you to think it hasn’t been been cleaned in a whileBreakfast: you have to pre order the day before and most guests did this at 10pm the night before. Which makes no sense as to why you have to pre order. It’s frustrating as how to do know what you want the night before.Big selection to choose from though and some great healthy and vegan options. Disappointed that the avocado was actually guacamole and not fresh. Also no choice of bread/toast, you are just given white. Again for the price and 5* this is something you’d expect.Staff:Staff were amazing and super helpful.Couldn’t fault them.Evening meal:The food was tasty but feel it was over priced for it was.Must try the local pub round the corner. The food and service was amazing and prices are reasonable. Had the nicest food I’ve had in a long time there. (The Royal Oak pub)Overall this hotel is nice but should be a 4 star and then expectations wouldn’t be so high.
Excellant
Great stay on way home for work purpose.Staff very friendlyFood was excellentBedrooms very clean and comfortableGreat location just off the motorway
Lovely spot for a stop over, or a longer break.
Gem of a stop over on the way home from Inverness. Small but perfectly adequate bedroom, well appointed. Had dinner which was excellent, service also.
Not disappointed
Our youngest son and his girlfriend having stopped at Willowbeck said we should too with a glowing recommendation. They were right, great location, excellent food (dinner & breakfast), friendly & welcoming staff and very comfortable accommodation. An excellent stay, thank you👍👍
Willow

Fantastic
Excellent hotel , room was gorgeous, staff were lovely, food was delicious, amazing breakfast, great location, will definitely be back , highly recommended.
Friendly and inviting
The bedroom and en suite were clean, nicely decorated and smelled lovely. The food was good though the menu was a bit limited, but it was a Sunday evening. There are specials added to the menu during the week. A very pleasant stay.
Excellent
Very enjoyable stay (but too short!),Room, staff and food excellent.Hope to return! Thank you
Flexibility andstaff attention to detail
Excellent location, staff were fantastic, very helpful, flexible with check in amd check out times which helped with our journey connections. We travel to Carlisle frequently and will book here going forward
Outstanding
Our stay at Willowbeck was made special by the staff (that is not to say that Eva's was not a very comfortable home from home, it was); however, it was the attention of each and every member of staff and Andrew which made it such an enjoyable weekend. We look forward to our next stay.
Response
Thanks for the kind review Andrew. It was lovely to meet you both, thanks for staying with us. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.Kind regards, Andrew
Super
We had a super stay. The hotel was very well styled and our room was lovely. The food was very well presented. A very relaxing stay
Lovely spot and iconic cedar accommodation
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay especially having the above accommodation, which was very comfortable and well appointed. It would have been nice to have had a more detailed explanation of the workings of the boiler and the outside lighting system (as we only found the latter's over rider on the last morning), having read the welcome book belatedly. We found the staff all very welcoming and the breakfasts were more than satisfactory. it was an especially congenial occasion for us three as it was the venue for David's sister's 8oth birthday party on the Saturday evening, which was a superb event provided by yourselves. We are looking forward to returning in May and sampling one of the rooms in the main building.Kind Regards David
Fabulous!
We returned from Willowbeck yesterday. Amazing stay and wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for you. The food is amazing, thank you to the chef. Hopefully we will come and stay again. Thank you x
Tranquil, clean and friendly
Can’t rate this place highly enough.Warm, friendly welcome on arrival.Lovely room and delicious food.Setting is idyllic, tucked away but so close to the M6 not that you can hear it.Try it for yourself
Excellent
Travelled with a friend to explore the area walkingHad a wonderful time staying in the beautiful Cedar Garden Suite Attention to detail is exceptional and Andrew & Sarah are kind and considerate hostsWe felt the measures put in place because of covid made us feel extremely safe I would recommend anyone to stay here
Very nice
Very enjoyable stayFriendly hostCleanClose to Carlisle
Very comfortable room
Very comfortable room. There is a bit of a hum from the M6 when you are outside.
Spotless rooms, great food, super helpful owners
Fantastic double room. Brand new bathroom with corner bath. Beautiful restaurant with wood burner. Owner fixed my bike without me even asking. So kind. Can’t fault it.
Beautiful Relaxed Setting
Lovely relaxing stay at willowbeck lodge, with friendly staff set in fabulous settings, thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Great little find
We had a very warm welcome from the owner. The room was excellent and the bathroom had a huge his and hers combined shower.Breakfast was great . I will definitely use again whenever we are in the area.Thank you for a lovely stay, we wished we had stayed another night instead of going to Chestnuts in Windermere which was for us a disasterKind regardsDavid and Liz Davison
Absolutely perfect
I had booked the accommodation as a base for a weekend golfing trip, not really knowing anything about the location or the surrounding area, but couldn’t have been more delighted with both. It sits close enough to the motorway that it made getting about to our courses very easy, but far enough away in a beautiful little village, making it very tranquil and relaxing. The village also has a great pub, The Royal Oak, with a great welcoming atmosphere and really friendly staff, which you have to visit! The staff at Willowbeck Lodge were also first class - warm, friendly and nothing was too much trouble which made us all feel very welcome. We stayed in 2 of the lodges/suites at the property and they were excellent - modern, light, luxurious decor with all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay. A real sense of having your own private apartment, whilst still knowing everything you need is right on the doorstop. We have quite a varied group of ages in our party but every one of us could not rate the place highly enough and it’s a certainty we will be back next year! Thanks again for a wonderful weekend.
A delightful place in very attractive surroundings
Excellent accommodation with tastefully decorated rooms. Helpful staff and a restaurant serving delicious food. To be highly recommended.
LOVELY HIGH SPECK B&B
This is a lovely rural location near to the M6.The rooms are beautifully furnished and is a great place to stay
Heavenly
We have stayed at Willowbeck Lodge before but this time we opted for Oak Room and were not disappointed. The room is spacious, calming decor, luxurious with a lovely bathroom. It was everything we hoped for and more.Excellent breakfast thank you Andrew. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to the next time.
Hidden Gem
Wow! Where to start, location is brilliant, grounds are beautiful, parking easy, easy to find, our room was stunning and done to a very high spec, wouldn't hesitate to book again, were looking to book the self contained lodge with friends we love it so much! The meal and service was exceptional as was thechoice and food at breakfast, everyone was very welcoming ten out of ten from us!
Great location, superb food and friendly staff.
We stayed at Willowbeck at the end of a 10 day-long road trip and it was such a great way to end the holiday. The kids loves running around the grounds, the rooms were stylish, spacious and sparkling clean and everyone there was so nice and welcoming. The food we had in the restaurant was outstanding. It’s also really close to the motorway, yet feels quiet and peaceful. There’s a park just across the road for kids, too. We’ll definitely be making this a regular stop on our trips up to Scotland.
Exceptional
Absolutely fantastic bank holiday weekend stay at this gorgeous place in the pretty village of Scotby. The Oak room was beautiful and spacious with a large corner bath and very comfortable bed. We loved the modern decor, so much so, we’re pinching it for our own room!Andrew and the rest of the team gave us a very warm welcome and, unlike many hotels, really went out of their way to ensure you had everything you needed and give helpful suggestions of where to walk etc.We dined both nights at Fini’s Kitchen due to both the superb food and the romantic setting in the contemporary glass fronted restaurant. A real treat.A beautiful place to relax and a more personal experience that makes you want to return. We definitely will be.
Very pleasant place to stay en route to/from Highlands
Very happy we chose this attractive property. Our host could not have given us a nicer welcome.Oak room is very spacious with enormous comfortable bed and large bathroom (bath and shower). We enjoyed our drinks and dinner and breakfast (lighter option breakfast was great!).A bit pricey overall but am sure we would book again as we were so comfortable and relaxed here.Thank you to our host.
Pretty pefect
Previous reviews had led me to expect great things and we were not disappointed. Top notch B&B in a beautiful setting, close to M6. Nice menu and delicious well cooked food in Fini's Restaurant. However chips with everything and a watercress garnish on my Sole didn't quite match the price or style of the menu. Just saying!
Top quality B&B
High quality accommodation with excellent restaurant serving fine food. Friendly helpful staff made for a fabulous place for a relaxing stopover en route to Scotland.
Very nice great for a 1 night stay
Friendly owner who was fantastic company great food lovely locationRoom a tad small but ok for 1 Person
Willowbeck Lodge Staycation
Great staff , delicious food , very comfortable roomsWe highly recommend a stay a Willowbeck Lodge
Beatiful Room
We booked last minute to break up a visit to Edinburgh. We were made verywelcome and the booking in process was easy.We found a very relaxed atmosphere and like minded fellowmguests, the place itself was just quality, including the breakfast and drinks! It was a shame we could only stay for one night as we didn`t have time to explore the surrounding area or take advantage of the lovely garden. I would recommend this place to my friends and we will definitely be back.
High standard
As always a lovely stay, with great room standard and cleanliness and lovely food.
Comfortable overnight
Very comfortable stay for me with my 16 year old son & his friend. And we brought our two dogs. The owners could not have been more helpful & accommodating as we were enroute to Scotland and needed one night stop overclose to the motorway. Best surprise was the excellent dinner we had. Very very good food and service. We loved staying here
Friendly, relaxed atmosphere
Lovely setting, very clean room. Great breakfast with friendly service,we would definitely stay again.
Exceptional
Stopped in the new Lodge away from the main house. Beautifully clean with fashionable decor and comfortable beds. Breakfast and evening meal were lovely and staff very polite. We would visit again if in the area.
Superb
We stayed in the Cedar and loved it. Quiet location with lovely gardens and set within easy walking distance to the centre of the village. On site there is a great restaurant where we had 2 meals over the weekend. We were well looked after by Andrew and the team and will definitely be back.
Welcoming, sparkling clean andthe perfect stop on the way north
A warm Carlisle welcome. Minutes from the M6 but very quiet in a beautiful garden. The owner is very friendly and keen to make even a short stay a success. Delicious dinner and breakfast. The little cottage was sparkling clean and roomy - ideal for a group and good for Covid times as you can have your dinner delivered from the kitchen to your own table in the cottage. Owner and staff all wearing PPE and very conscious and professional about Covid security. A pretty spot for a small wedding party not too far from Gretna Green!
????
Highly recommend it. Attentive staff and owner. Lovely garden, comfortable rooms, enjoyed the meal. Hoping for a discount when I return after this (accurate) review. ????
Overnight stay
Thank you for a fantastic stay at willow beck.I would recommend a stay here as it’s such a lovely place to relax. Our room was exceptionally clean with double doors overlooking the garden.Andrew went out of his way to make sure our stay was memorable and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to anybody that is planning to come here
Response
Thanks Teresa for your kind words. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your weekend break.Best regards, Andrew
Exceptionally Clean, Perfectly tranquil & Reassuringly welcoming
So easy to find just off the motorway, Willowbeck Lodge is a haven of calm.A warm and friendly welcome twice now en-route to Stranraer Ferry, With a delicious evening meal and hearty breakfast. The beds are ridiculously comfortable and fast hot running water in their pristine bathrooms. No fault to be found. We will definitely be returning perhaps for a longer stay next time!
Response
Thanks for staying with us again Johanna. It was lovely to welcome you back.Glad you had a productive few weeks in Ireland. Time for a holiday?? All the best Andrew
Lovely room, great welcome, comfy bed..and a good breakfast too
I've said it all in the title. Easy access to the M6 and well worth the detour. At the time we went, just as Covid lockdown were ending, evening meals were not available every night. If not already, they should be soon so check with the hotel if this is important
Response
Thanks for your review John.We\'re so glad you enjoyed your stay with us.See you soon
A little piece of magic
Nice peaceful hotel with good food great owner and helpful staff. Nothing to complain about and full COVID precautions.
Best Hospitality to date
Fantastic and fabulous. Beautiful place and lovely staff
Fantastic place with a personal service.
Stayed as a stopover on the way to Scotland and will definitely be staying again. Great location, only minutes from M6, but set in beautiful quiet village. Lovely rooms and staff couldn’t be more helpful.
Fantastic
Fantastic Service & Very Helpful Owner...We both work in the Persanol Caring sectorThis hotel is perfectly located & the surroundings areSo beautiful & the hotel is very well kept & highly maintained Highly Recommend Thank You
Beautifully Modern and Peaceful
Myself and my partner had a lovely stay and will certainly stay here again when in the area
Great
Really great hotel, clean, friendly and with a destination charger too.
Superb
Andrew and Sarah made us very welcome. The property is ideally situated in a beautiful village. The room was extremelycomfortable - bed linen of the highest quality. The breakfast choices were great and food superb.Evening meals were also superb with a fantastic choice.Would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.Excellent10/10. Couldn’t fault this wonderful place
Excellent hotel and restaurant
Just a couple of minutes off the M6 so really easy to access.Room was modern and well appointed.Comfortable bed and good shower is all I ask for and this definitely delivered. The restaurant was really excellent.Only a small menu but i would rather that than have a large menu with poor quality.Food and service were great for both dinner and breakfast.Charging facilities for EV cars was a great bonus.Would definitely use again and recommend.
Amazing stay
We stopped here to break up our journey. Just 5 mins from the M6, yet so quiet. The hotel sits in beautiful grounds and is a beautiful building. We arrived mid evening and were greeted by Andrew who was very friendly and showed us our room. The room was spotlessly clean (and I am very fussy!), airy, modern and warm, with a huge bed. The en-suite was just beautiful and again spotless. We chose to eat in the village at the Royal Oak pub, as we had been cooped up in the car all day. It was barely a 5 minute walk away. Great food, friendly atmosphere and wonderful service. In the morning we had a full English breakfast at the hotel, which was delicious. This place could rival some luxury hotels for the quality of the room, food, service and location but at a far better price. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again and will certainly be back.
Perfect night away
My fiancée and I recently spent a night In the Hazel room. The room was beautiful and pristine. Sarah couldn’t have been more welcoming and the food was lovely. It was the perfect quiet getaway. We cannot wait to come back for another night very soon.
Amazing
What great little Hotel, food amazing service amazing room amazing, just Amazing
A wonderful small hotel with a friendly, family atmosphere and terrific food
We’ve stayed at Willowbeck Lodge three times now and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel. The owners, Andrew and Sarah, are extremely friendly. The warmth of their welcome could not be improved upon. Our room has always been spotlessly clean (thank you Hazel!) and very comfortable. The location is no more than a few minutes (maybe 7) from the M6 so supremely convenient for the long distance traveller. The hotel looks out over a large pond and the beck where a dazzling array of water and other birds make for fascinating viewing. The food in the restaurant - which has a lovely atmosphere, warm underfloor heating and a wood burner - is superb. Great ingredients, imaginatively cooked, we’ve never had room for pudding! We will definitely be staying there again.
Quiet, restful retreat
It was wonderful to come back to our Willow room after a day out to relax in the bright airy room, then step down stairs for a wonderful dinner. Our hosts, Andrew and Sarah, were friendly and we often ended up in easy chatting as we passed by. This is definitely somewhere we would return to stay.

Thank you for your kind words. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us here at Willowbeck. We would love to welcome you both here again in the future. S&A
Great
Great hotel, car charger, food and drink!Great stuff :)
Another very pleasant stay
Arrived late due hold up on main road.We were made very welcome and despite it being so late were able to havea glass of wine freshly made sandwiches and chips pudding and coffee .Couldn’t ask for more!Really nice room good nights sleep and a very good breakfast.
Superb
The owner and staff were extremely friendly and couldn't have been more helpful, the food was excellent, the room very comfortable and clean. I travel a lotand am rarely this impressed - top marks on all fronts - cannot recommend too highly!!
Highly Recomend
Great location not more than two minutes from the M6 and still very peaceful. Rooms where great with good comfort and space only real downside is there is no bath. On the other hand the shower was very large with plenty of room to more. All in all one of the cleanest hotels we have stayed in in a long time and excellent choice of cooked breakfasts. We will be back in the future 5*.
Excellent
Have stayed at Willowbeck many times and is always excellent in every respect.
Great Find
We have stayed here a couple of times recently on the way back from the outer Hebrides to break our journey. Excellent rooms and very good food in Finis restaurant and a good welcome from the owners familyIts a one off really 2 minutes from the M6 quiet location which surprised us and a great Childrens leisure field 100m away where you can walk your dog around a large field and meet local people who are doing the same.
Perfect
My only regret is that we booked only one night. We now have our place to stay in Cumbria.
GREAT STAY AT WILLOWBECK LODGE
A brilliant venue in a really lovely stting. Andrew and Sarah are brilliant hosts - attnetive friendly and more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure that the visit is memorable. Great food, lovely peolple, really comfortable room. This place has got something special going on - highly recommended.
Family gathering
We were made to feel very welcome and it felt like home from home. Thank you
Great night.
A lovely, comfortable, relaxed stay at Willowbeck lodge. Such a cosy place, great room, everyone very friendly and nothing too much trouble. We both loved our evening meal and really nice bottle of wine. Breakfast was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Willowbeck stay
We had a fantastic one night stay in the oak room at Willowbeck lodge. Andrew was a very kind and easy going host.Room was great. Clean and nicely decorated and the super kingsize bed suited our needs as I am 6ft 5in...Our evening meal was excellent, done to a very high standard.Breakfast was just as good.We will certainly visit again now we have found this place.Well worth it.Thank you Andrew.... and thank your chef.
stop over in Carlisle
Very pleasant stay with excellent evening meal
Willowbeck Wonder
Beautiful room in equally beautiful surroundings. Easy to get to from M6 and really warm welcome. Great breakfast.I turned up on the wrong day (my error)and they couldn't have been more accommodating. Definitely will be stopping here again
1-2 November
An exceptionally beautiful location, warm andvery well furnished room and bathroom, delicious breakfast. Can’t wait to go back. Thank you to lovely staff too.
Excellent
ExcellentI stayed here during a business trip and it was a refreshing change to living out of hotels. The personalised, family owned element made such a difference.I arrived early, but this was no problem as the lovely couple that own the lodge came to get me checked in with their two equally lovely children entertained me with their conversation and ‘hopping ability’I was shown to a beautiful room (which was upgraded to a slightly larger room due to it simply being available) by a lovely lady and her children - and advised on local restaurants to get a nice evening meal, they were so accommodating and I really appreciated this. The room was well equipped and I couldn’t fault it. Breakfast was served in the morning by yet another lovely lady and the chef. Full English was delicious. The nicest thing was to be asked how my stay had been - these guys really value the importance of a great stay on their lodge,I look forward to my next booking. Thankyou,
Excellent stopover very near Carlisle
We arrived unexpectedly late in the evening. We were greeted heartedly by the owner, who opened the bar for a late night drink in our room. Real luxury in Holly Room with so much space and excellent amenities. We requested and received a brilliant and imaginative vegan and veggie breakfast. We shall return for our next visit to Carlisle. Andy and Gill
A review
Excellent accommodation in a beautiful setting. Highly recommend a visit
Relaxing break
We had a very relaxing break at Willowbeck Lodge, we opted for the self-catering option which was perfecr for our needs. The property is well located for reaching a variety of places of interest. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant and would highly recommend it.Our hosts were warm and welcoming.
Review
Great stay everyone very helpful, especially with out of the ordinary requests. Good restaurant and good rooms
Fantastic hideaway!
I had a fantastic stay at Willowbeck Lodge. It is a hidden away treasure, quiet and beautifully presented, in a village, yet within easy reach of Carlisle with all its amenities and historical associations. I was given a wonderfully friendly welcome and I felt comfortable from the moment I arrived until the day I left. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area. It's clean, quiet, and charming. Looking forward to the next time!
Excellent Choice for our Visit to Hadrian\'s Wall and N Lakes
We stayed for 4 nights as part of our visit to Hadrian's Wall and the Northern Lake District. The location is ideal being close to the A69 and the M6, yet in a really quiet village. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. It was equipped with all the modern conveniences one expects with a large hotel but with the friendliness of a B&B. The restaurant is open 4 evenings a week. The one evening we ate there it was excellent, as were the breakfasts. We also found there was a wide choice of good of restaurants close by in Wetheral and Carlisle. Scotby itself is a lovely friendly village with pub, shop, school etc.The owners and staff were friendly, helpful and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay, which we certainly did.
Overnight Stop
The new addition to Willowbeckworks very well.Even higher standards and great food.
perfect
Beautiful house and location - idyllic, yet 2 mins drive from the M6. perfect stopping off point.
Perfect Upscale Country Retreat
Thank you Andrew. Our two nights stay with you was wonderful and all the inn was as pictured. It was delightful, super clean, charming and you were most helpful with any needs we might have had. We did a super tour of Hadrian's Wall with Anna Gray which was incredible. We would return any time to Willowbeck and recommend to anyone your wonderful slice of paradise in Northern England.Ron and Anne Yatteau, Andersonville, TN, USA
The Lodge is a gem!
We spent a night at the lodge as our first stop walking Hadrian's Wall. We had asupport car, which made it easy, but the lodge exceeded expecteations for comfort andfacilities. We had a lovely dinner in the evening and adelicious breakfast. Full marks - five star!
The BEST place to stay
I stayed at Willowbeck Lodge for 3 days after having to change my holiday plans .... and it was the right decision .... it was just perfect. Everyone was so kind and helpful and made my stay a great one. The room was wonderful and like a home away from home, the bed was comfy and the food was absolutley delicious. I'd give more stars if I could. Thank you so much for everything.
Magical stopover
A very special place - loved the cosyness of the Beach room - perfect for single occupancy .The food was excellent - a great pity I had to leave at 5.00am and missed breakfast !Richard
Once again a gem
We stayed here both on the way to and on the way back from our Scottish holiday. As last year, we were greeted as friends by Andrew, the owner, and made very welcome by the staff. We had dinner on both nights and were very impressed by the standard of the food, then and at breakfast. We will definitely be returning.
Superior accommodation and great foodnon site.
A super 1-nightstay and delicious evening meal and breakfast. We've arranged to come back!
Excellent B&B
Comfortable, spacious, spotlessly clean accommodation in pretty surroundings. Friendly, helpful staff made our stay most enjoyable.Would definitely go back if in the area again and recommend to family and friends!
stay evening of 17 July 2019
Friendly people .Good welcome .Tranquil situation and very quiet lodge .I am not sure that " bed and breakfast" is the best description .It is much bigger than usual B&B , serves dinner etc .
Lovely place, lovely food, lovely people
This was our second stay at this lovely hotel. Andrew and Sarah work hard at this venture and it shows in the results. Will be calling back in two weeks, on our way home from s lovely fortnight on Mull, and this will be a shining light for us on our dismal return to reality. Thanks to all concerned.
Amazing stay
We have just returned from a lovely weekend at Willowbeck. Great rooms, warm atmosphere, super food and peaceful setting. A huge thank you to our host Andrew who was very welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be returning .
Excellent!
We arrived to a warm welcome from our host Andrew and found everything about the Lodge of a very high standard. It’s in a tranquil setting but still convenient for the motorway, the city and surrounding places of interest. We highly recommend the Willowbeck Lodge and look forward to making a return visit.
Very relaxing stay
Very clean, friendly staff, fantastic food, quiet relaxing accommodation in beautiful surroundings. Ideal location just off motorway. Loved it!
Hidden Gem !
Fantastic stay at this wonderful small hotel !First class, clean, comfortable and welcoming.Excellent chef ...some wonderfully creative dishes. Can’t recommend highly enough. We’ll definitely be back .
Pleasant stay
As usual a very pleasant stay. Nicely situated a short distance from the M6, this hotel is both convenient and a very peasant place to stay. We really liked our room, excellent bathroom and we enjoyed our dinner.
A peaceful gem in very convenient location
WE stayed in Willow for 3 nights while travelling around Penrith, Carlisle, and Hadrians Wall. Excellent location just off the motorway without any noise. Very comfortable seats in the large room, plenty of storage. Standard tea and coffee facilities with kettle, so bring any special teas with you. The restaurant is superb. We wish we had had every meal there. We had two meals in and one out. Everywhere inside is fresh and clean. the outside is a bit messy as there is still some building work going on, but don't let that put you off. We would happily return. Breakfasts are amazing. choice of Craster kippers, eggs benedict, avocado on toast aswell as all the usuals. Super value.
Great stay!
We stayed in the self catering lodge which is next to the B&B/restaurant. It was lovely and beautifully decorated, with many home comforts. There is plenty of space for up to 4 people. The food in the restaurant was superb and the best chips we have ever had! Very friendly and welcoming.
Lovely stay!
Andrew and his wife are wonderful hosts and it was lovely staying in the beautiful space they have created! His homemade food is scrumptious and his staff friendly and personable. We would happily visit again!
Another great stay
Another great stay at beautiful, friendly Willowbeck, star of Scotby!
Accommodation and Dining at its Best
Willowbeck is a contemporary, small hotel offering very comfortable, friendly accommodation. It is a short distance from the M6 and A69 making North/South, East/West travel very easy as well as as acting as a great base for exploring Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District and Northern Pennines.Situated up a quiet country lane its garden is full of Willow Trees surrounding a pond making it an ideal place to chill-out and relax.Fini's restaurant, part of the hotel, offers delicious, straight-forward dining using fresh local produce. We had a wonderful three day break and our thanks go to Andrew and Sarah, our hosts.
Hidden Gem
Wonderful place to stay close to the motorway but extremely quiet! Warm friendly welcome by Andrew and lovely service. Delicious food served but very nice staff. Definitely will stay here again. Perfect!
Lovely Spot
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxed and comfortable place to stay then this is the spot.Great restaurant too, and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. We had a lovely time, thank you.
As good as always perhaps better
In 2011, We had the occasion to stay overnight at the Willowbeck and was thoroughly impressed by the comfort and hospitality of the facility and the hosts. So when we had the occasional to travel last week passed Carlisle, we took the opportunity to say again. The place is not just as good but its even more relaxing and the hosts more pleasurable. You can not find a better B&B within 100 miles.
Excellent
Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and excellent food.Recommend eating in for the evening, we had a superb meal.
Beautiful location, great hosts, nice and tidy rooms
What more could you ask for? Yet, on top of all that the restaurant cuisine was absolutely outstanding. Loved every part of this trip and would happily stay again and again. Can't recommend this place enough. Fantastic!
Golden Wedding
Andrew and his team made us very welcome. We had a lovely room overlooking their secluded lake/pond. The public rooms are well appointed, bright and cheerful. The arrangements we required for our celebrations were efficiently and effectively implemented. The food wasexcellent and service friendly and efficient. The warm and intimate atmosphere was perfect for a small party and created a relaxed and happy experience. We woulldhighly recommend it for overnight or longer stays andevents or just lunch or dinner. We will return. Many many thanks.
Mrs
Excellent excellent excellent....need I say more 😀😃
Large room with a gorgeous view / friendly service / excellent food
I stayed at Willowbeck Lodge for two nights for work - I was impressed by the room size, excellent food and friendly service. I look forward to staying again soon.
cCmfortable stay
Our stay was for one night, the property is ideally situated a short distance off the M6. the room are very comfortable, a good size and the beds were excellent for a good nights sleep. We had dinner in the restaurant where we found a good range of food on the menu, the meal produced was excellent. Overall a good visit and we will be back again in June.
An exceptional stopover.
Willowbeck was initially discovered by our daughter some years ago.She has a talent for finding excellent places but I think Willowbeck is her best.We had a lovely stay there on the 24th of April and as on our previous visits the quality of the room and food was superb.Almost more importantly the welcome from the owner is similarly wonderful. It is in no way pretentious which considering the quality of its ambience is not an easy trick to pull off.
Short break

Willowbeck Lodge is the perfect Bed & Breakfast
Willowbeck Lodge is the perfect place for a family holiday, weekend getaway, wedding or an overnight stop in Carlisle. Just a few miles from the M6, this Bed & Breakfast will leave you with lifelong memories, great food, and exceptional comfort & service. My family recently stayed in the beautiful Cedar Lodge situated next to the main lodge equip with large rooms, a full kitchen, and a cozy living room. The owner, Andrew, is incredibly kind and caring, which made us feel at home. Andrew kindly accommodated our late check in and provided exceptional service at Fini's Kitchen such that we returned a second consecutive night for dinner cancelling our original plans to David's Restaurant. We were very happy with this decision. My family traveled from the United States and we would love to return to this beautiful lodge in the future. We absolutely loved every minute of our experience and highly recommend this experience to everyone!
Mar 6 2019
Lovely food and room except for a few malfunctions - sink blocked, TV erratic and shower thermostat all over the place.
fantastic Cumbrian hospitality
I was so impressed by my welcome, the attention to detail in my room, the hosts friendliness and kindness. The setting was picturesque, the bedroom and bathroom were so clean and spacious with every type of comfort. the host transported me to the nearest village so I could eat as willowbeck restaurant was closed when I stayed, I was so grateful as I was a complete stranger to the area. I had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Perfect
Another perfect stay !
Quality stay
The lodge is a really lovely place to stay. Roaring fire and cosey lounge perfect place to relax. Restful warm and welcoming. Beautiful rooms and perfect luxurious spacious bathroom. Excellent breakfast of high standard.Perfect location for us on journey to and from Scotland. Will definitely be back.
5 Star Plus hotel
The owner Andrew met us on arrival, and was extremely welcoming. Andrew made us a fresh beverage, which was much appreciated. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean,. We had a lovely view of the beck with the ducks. Breakfast was excellent too. I have already recommended the hotel to friends.
Lovely stay
Willowbeck is a friendly, smart, luxurious place to stay. Our room (the Willow) was very spacious, with a lovely bathroom and french doors overlooking the pool. The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything we needed.Breakfast was lovely, with a great choice of delights on offer. We chose not to eat dinner at Willowbeck, but the small dining room was full of diners and clearly popular. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the ambience was relaxed and enjoyable. We would highly recommend this as an overnight stop or a centre for exploring the lovely local countryside.
Willowbeck B&B
Outstanding in every respect.
Room with a view
Andrew, Sarah and Hazel looked after us very well. The accommodation was really lovely.Peaceful setting. Warm and comfy. Service beyond the expected and the cats added a homey feeling for us even if unintentionally. Brekky was delicious and plentiful. Loved our stay.
Brilliant- a hidden gem
Just a one night stop on the way south and we chanced upon Willowbeck by accident - but what luck! This is an amazing family run establishment just about 1 mile off the M6 near Carlisle in the tiny village of Scotby. Its an amazing modern building almost in a Scandinavian style. There are only 4 rooms and it sits overlooking a small private lake with wildfowl swimming merrily awayThe rooms are superb. Every amenity and large comfortable beds and perhaps the biggest hotel bathroom I have seen with a walk in shower that can easily accommodate three people if that was your wish! High quality smellies, lovely bed linenDownstairs is Fini's Restaurant. Warning - it only opens 5 nights a week - but there are other good gastro pubs nearby . Its also open during the day in a cafe / brasserie style with some tables outside when weather allows. The food is brilliant. On the night we were there it was Fish & Fizz with a range of fish dishes washed down with Prosecco. All superbly cooked and a bright buzzy friendly atmosphere with lots of groups of friends and small groups of local ladies . Breakfast was cooked to order and first class with a wide range of options. The staff are marvellous - friendly and and could not do enough to make our stay the best it could be.This is ideally placed to break a long trip North or South and quite near Carlisle and the western end Hadrians Wall. It would also be an excellent base for just a weekend away somewhere different. We will be back!
Quality hotel
Really enjoyed our stay here...quality room quality breakfast...relaxing
Lovely Hotel in Very Pretty Setting
Willowbeck Lodge is a lovely place to stay. It is a very attractive building in a picturesque setting. The rooms are spacious and very well appointed. Andrew, the owner, was very friendly and the breakfast had an excellent choice and was cooked to order. This is a really nice place to stay and we will definitely stay again if we are back in the area.
just perfect
very comfortable room, excellent restaurant, very friendly
Perfect stay
Lovely accommodation fantastic food very comfortable
Convenient, Comfortable and Relaxing
Willowbeck Lodge is a short distance from the M6 and easily found. It is set back from an infrequently used road facing a pond surrounded by Willow trees. The accommodation is modern, tastefully decorated and very welcoming. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious. Our hosts and their staff were very friendly ensuring that our stay was very pleasant. This was our second visit after a break of four years and we would certainly not hesitate returning.
What a shame
What a shame we were only staying one night .Absolutely everything about Willowbeck was perfect......the room , the hotel , the food and ,most importantly , the feeling of a real home from home .We were on our way to visit friends in the north of Scotland and will certainly be staying at Willowbeck on any future trips .
Lovely, lovely, lovely
The reason I have headed this review as I have is because there were indeed three lovelies. To start, the hosts were absolutely what one might expect but rarely find. A lovely young couple who give of their time as if you were family.Secondly, the lovely room. Clean, spacious and, most importantly for any hotel, comfortable.Last but by no means least, the food. We ate like king and queen in the evening and again at breakfast, and the food was, yes you get the picture, LOVELY!!Many thanks to Andrew, Sarah and their super team.
Lovely stay
We stayed overnight on way back from Scotland. Beautiful accommodation, and a wonderful meal. Wish we could have stayed longer
B&B at its best!
If you would like to experience modern, and yet warm and cozy, accommodation, try to book couple nights in Willowbeck. I do not want to spoil it for you (other reviews already did, and it is all true), reserve the dinner with them, explore the beautiful surroundings and just leave enough time to sit on the bench by the pondand admire magnificent willow trees.
A hidden Gem
Found Willowbeck Lodge by chance while looking for somewhere to stay while visiting the daughter at University at Carlisle. WOW did we choose a star, Andy and Sarah are fantastic hosts and cannot do enough for you, nothing is too much trouble and Andy’s cooking is second to none. I like to think that I enjoy quality food and my god, I was not dissapointed here, Andy cooks for residents only in the evening and I recommend all to take advantage of this sublime food. The hospitality in the rooms is great, everything you need and more and the setting within the grounds with the small pond and surrounded by willows is relaxing and beautiful, I really cannot recommend a stay here highly enough and cannot wait to revisit.
Beautiful
Beautiful accomodation in a beautiful setting. Hosts could not be more attentive and will help wherever they can. Few rooms which ensures peaceful stay. Would deffo go again.
Lovely stay
Very welcoming hosts. Comfortable and lovely location.Food was very goodin the evening and at breakfast.
An idyllic place
What an idyllic place,: efficient, family-run, tranquil and friendly.
Very convenient location
Nice pleasant place. Unfortunately we stayed on a Monday when the local (very good)Indian was closed. Willowbeck’s own restaurant in not open on a Monday either. The very helpful owner recommended a pub in the next village which was fine and he cooked us a nice breakfast the following morning. It’s clean and comfortable with a pretty garden
From a young mature couple
We very much enjoyed our stay at Willowbeck Lodge. Our room was comfortable .Very lovely décor. Andrew is fun to talk to and a wonderful host.
Excellent short stay
Easy to find off the M6, lovely peaceful setting. Rooms beautifully equipped, large and airy. Andrew andSarah were excellent hosts. Fabulous breakfasts and a very good evening meal using local produce. We stayed en-route to and from the North of Scotland and it was a perfect place to start and finish a memorable trip . CL

A wonderful night to stay on our way back from holiday in Scotland. A very warm welcome, a superb bedroom overlooking the lake. Extremely comfortable bad and a spotless well appointed bathroom. Evening meal was sensational. Breakfast was equally imaginative and well cooked. Will stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

Another very pleasent stay at Willowbeck.
This is our 4th or 5th stay at Willowbeck Lodge now and each one has been perfect. We stay on our way to Scotland and is the start of our holiday. It is always a perfect start with very friendly hosts who take the time to make sure everything goes well. The rooms are lovely with fantastic facilities. Willowbeck is set in stunning grounds and lends itself perfectly to relaxation. We will return again in the near future.

We had a delightful stay in this luxury B&B. The breakfast was second to none and the room was most comfortable and spacious. The optional evening meal on our first evening was also delicious. We would highly recommend willowbeck lodge for touring this area.
Two night stay
This is an excellent location to access Carlisle and the M6 going North and South.Picturesque surroundings providing a quite and serene setting to relax in. Excellent facilities within the accommodation.Would recommend to anyone.
Great Hospitality
Just spent two glorious nights here.Wonderful surroundings - a peaceful oasis - and great hospitality.Beautifully comfortable beds and if you get the chance to eat an evening meal while staying go for it!
Thank you
Dear WillowbeckThank you for a nice stay.A couple of wee pointers you might like to think about:- the potatoes served with our main course were quite hard (we don't like to complain at the time so apologies that you were not given a chance to correct this at the time). The chips BTW were fabulous.- We feel that for a 5 star B&B breakfast should be served until at least 10am- As above check out at 10.30 is unreasonably early, especially on a saturday- Finally, the domestic staff were making quite a bit of noise and using hoovers etc very early (after breakfast we wanted to rest for half an hour and were unable to because of the noise). Also, one of the domestic helpers had cast her shoes off at the top of the stairs and this looked very unprofessional.I hope you find this feedback helpful. Overall it was a nice stay though, for the above reasons, not as nice as last time and we are not likely to return (price-wise and stars-wise you did not quite live up to expectations this year). All bext wishes thoughStella & Steve
A gem of a place
Willowbeck lodge is so well located and in such great surroundings. The owners and staff are wonderful people and make you feel very welcome.
Excellent visit to Cumbria
We chose to stay at Willowbeck Lodge after reading the excellent reviews and we were not disappointed. This warm & comfortable place can't be faulted. Breakfast was delicious and although we weren't able to eat an evening meal here we were given an excellent recommendation for a nearby gastropub. So helpful! We would very happily stay here again and highly recommend it to others.
Willowbeck Lodge
Excellent in every respect
The best in Carlisle
Fabulous setting, fabulous hosts, fabulous food! Willowbeck Lodge has been built with love and the details reflect it clearly. Now in the care of the second generation of the family, Andrew and his staff were fantastic hosts and the stay was comfortable and pleasant. Frankly, I don't think they charge enough but if you don't stay here when in Carlisle, you are doing yourself a disservice. I travel a lot and I would put this experience in the top 10% of places I've stayed. British hostelry at its finest!
Great location!
A perfect break during our trip to Scotland. Gentle host and a very beautiful location with all you need.
Perfect Start To Our Holiday!
We stayed two nights at Willowbeck Lodge and loved the following: warm welcome; fabulous, comfortable room with view; large bathroom with spacious shower and corner bath; delicious breakfast - great selection; bar with good choice of beverages; evening meals - food with the wow factor!; location - good country walks, also close to Carlisle. To sum up - very highly recommended!
Perfect
We received a warm welcome here after a long day driving. Such a beautiful building in lovely, peaceful surroundings. Our room was very clean and extremely comfortable. We had a quiet and comfortable night, and a lovely breakfast in the morning. Unfortunately we didn't have dinner but we spoke to another couple who had eaten here and said it was delicious. We would definitely recommend Willowbeck Lodge and hope to stay here again.
Great guesthouse, lovely staff
Myself and my wife used Willowbeck Lodge as an overnight stop on route to the Scottish Highlands. The property was immaculate inside and out and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely use Willowbeck Lodge next time we visit the lake district.
good start
we spend the first night on our holiday trip in the UK and enjoyed very much our stay at the family owned lodge. it is a good starting or finishing point for the hadrian wall
Great B&B
A very lovely stay and a fantastic setting, great parking for your classic car which is important to me we will stay there again
Lovely
Only stayed one night but it was very enjoyable.Bed was sooo comfortable, hospitality tray well stocked, dressing gown and slippers provided. Peaceful setting and best of all you can't hear other guests in their rooms.
Sad we only stayed one night
We stayed in the Willow Room which had oceans of space, a very large, comfortable bed and a magnificent en-suite. Dinner and breakfast were a delight. The staff were all very friendly and helpful - it's been a long time since I was offered assistance in carrying my luggage. If ever we're back in this neck of the woods then staying here will be a must.
Overnight stay
Stayed art this beautiful retreat for one night when heading to Scotland. Excellent all round. Very welcoming and relaxing and the meals are fantastic. We've already booked again for our trip in February 2017.
The only place to rest
A perfect location with excellent meals and friendly staff. We used the lodge as a stop off point on our journey back from Scotland. I wish we had time to stay longer. Highly recommended.
Very satisfied customers
From start of our stay to finish couldn't of asked for anything more, room, evening meal through to breakfast.Staff very accommodating. No hesitation to book again when in area.
Good place to break a long journey
We chose Willowbeck Lodge as a good place to break a journey from NW Scotland to Bristol, and to give us the opportunity to visit Hadrian's wall.It was perfect. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very well-appointed.The welcome was warm, the food delicious (we ate dinner both nights) and the setting peaceful. There was masses of information on things to do in the locality. We had an excellent day exploring the Wall and would certainly return to see more.
Simply The Best
A Great Stay with excellent Hosts, comfortable clean modern accommodation and top breakfast.Idyllic location with easy access off the main roads. Nearby local village with nice restaurant and a few minutes from Carlisle
Tranquil
Lovely place to stay , clean , food excellent
Really lovely stay
The stay from start to finish was extremely enjoyable. The actual arrival sets the scene as one can see from the above picture. I was greeted by Andrew who was a really great "mine host". My bedroom which was the one with the French window was large and spotless. The bathroom has a large walk in shower and the amenities are bath house which are lovely.Breakfast was a delicious kipper and the other diners'breakfast also looked very good and all freshly cooked. All in all a very good stay and I will for sure "BE BACK"!!
As good as ever
This was our second stay, and we were just as impressed as the first time. Although we only stayed one night, (wish it could have been more!)the ambience and welcome are first class. We would not hesitate to recommend Willowbeck to anyone. Hope to return again.

Hi Liz and JohnWe really enjoyed our stay with you.Your tips on the best parts of Hadrians wall were perfect for us. Also the route you gave us off the beaten track to Keswick was amazing. We loved the little back roads and had fun exploring. The food was of a very high standard and the room bed Ann's bedding was top notch. We will highly recommend Willowbeck Lodge to friends and family. We wish you all the bestTrish and Dave
Tops
We stay at Wllowbeck maybe twice per year. This time arriving by AA relay with our Range Rover on board we just needed love and help. We received it and began to enjoy our holiday again.
Wonderful stay
Hospitality second to none. Beautiful bedroom and bathroom spotless. Food delicious. We look forward to a return visit in the near future.
Superior B&B
We stayed at the Willowbeck Lodge overnight whilst attending a family party in Carlisle. Our only regret was that we weren't staying for longer! Willowbeck is the nicest B&B we have stayed at in the UK. The owners are extremely friendly and the rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. Breakfast selection is excellent and well presented. Evening meals were available but as we were going out for dinner we did not try the restaurant but did partake in a night-cap when we returned. Overall a very pleasant experience.
Peaceful, Warm, Brilliant
Loved my stay at Wollowbeck Lodge. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Great place to stay, peaceful, quiet, immaculately prepared. Cannot speak too highly of the place. If I return to Carlisle I will be returning to Willowbeck Lodge.

Perfect from start to finish
This was a hidden gem, I can honestly say John & Liz went above and beyond to make the stay perfect from stat to finish. It was booked very last minute due to a minor public transport problem we had returning home, but it's somewhere we will return to at a later date.

Most enjoyable
We were made to feel very welcome on arrival by Liz.Our room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was also large and had a bath and a shower. We didn't have an evening meal but Liz told us she was happy to take us to the next village to eat and we could then arrange a taxi to return. We would have no hesitation to return if in the area.
